I always called his home phone like over and over and over after school and one time it went to the answering machine and I got scared and for some reason, I have literally no idea why, I started saying my nighttime prayers? ON HIS ANSWERING MACHINE! 'Dear god, please bless my mom, my dad, my cat...' I still wonder if he ever heard it and thought I was weird." – kristinm42bb99942 2 Made them cookies every day "I gave the girl I liked cookies every day for an entire school year. I would put off doing homework after school so I could make cookies to impress her and have a reason to talk to her." – jessh4aac34df6 3 Serenaded them Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer "In 8th grade, a friend and I signed up to sing a duet in our school’s talent show. The day before the show, my friend got sick and lost her voice, forcing me to change songs or drop out of the show. Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I decided to sing my (then) girlfriend’s favourite song, 'Hey There Delilah'. (I knew it was her favourite because it was her MySpace song.) I spent all night learning the song, but when it came time for the show, I completely blanked and forgot the words halfway through the song. Needless to say, I can’t listen to that song without triggering anxiety." – calebbryanc 4 Composed a poem "I wrote a very romantic poem to my first crush in 7th grade and put it in his locker. His friends found it first, and proceeded to quote lines from my poem to me for two years. I have not written a poem since." – lindsays4b35a5283 5 Used High School Musical as a wing man Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF Disney "I told him I loved him while watching High School Musical. He just said “Oh”. – ullrmad 6 Potentially terrified them "I put a *series* of creepy notes in my crush's locker for one week in 8th grade. I'm talking magazine cutout letters arranged to tell him I liked him; kind of creepy. At the time I thought it was the best way to be anonymous, but looking back now I cringe so hard. Luckily, I don't think he ever figured out it was me." – maggishly 7 Got their band director to be their wing woman Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF youtube.com "I️ had a new, cute boy in my homeroom junior year of high school. I️ was in the band, and somehow found out he played the saxophone. The band needed more sax players, so I️ immediately told my band teacher his name. He got called down to the band room during homeroom one day and was asked to join. He was mortified and refused. EVERYONE knew I️ had been the one to suggest this. "We never happened, but at least my band director tried to be a good wingman." – annad40413e983 8 Teamed up with a best friend "A few years ago, I encouraged my best friend to leave a Post-it Note on this guy's gym bag. It only said, "hi!" No name, no number, no Insta handle. "Then I encouraged her to confront him about not responding to her Post-it, because he obviously should have figured out it was her. Needless to say he was confused and looked kinda scared." – brittanyednap 9 Asked them out in pink icing Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF BBC "When I was a freshman in high school, our winter formal was a girls-ask-guys kind of dance. I decided to bake, like, 30 cookies for this junior that I liked and write, “formal?” in pink icing as a way of asking him. He said yes, took the cookies, and told me no the next day. Fourteen-year-old me was HEARTBROKEN." – rachel.kaplan 10 Picked them up at silly o clock "I was seeing a guy who clearly was avoiding any kind of commitment. I get a call from him at 2:20 a.m. and he tells me that he and his friends are about to get arrested if they don't get a ride, so my lost-in-love crazy self got out of bed and drove to get them and then to each of his friends' houses to drop them off. I had class at 8 a.m. that I ended up sleeping through that morning." – Scs0220 11 Provided a getaway vehicle Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF Blunt Talk "A guy I liked in high school once got in an argument with his dad and ran away – he was 17. He had his own car, his car keys, and a license yet he chose to PHYSICALLY run away from home!!!!! And he called me to come save him (via Twitter from someone else’s phone) and I was so taken aback that he chose to ask me to come save him that I actually drove to pick him up. I was in such a rush I took the tollway and didn’t even have a toll tag. I pulled up at the Starbucks where he was and he sprinted to my car and got in and just yelled at me to drive. Running right behind him was his DAD who then stood behind my car so I couldn’t back out." – diyam488849bdd 12 Stared rejection in the face "When I was in the 6th grade, I had the most MASSIVE crush on my best guy friend. My chubby little self had never been rejected, and I decided it would be a good idea to ask him out. And who did I ask for advice? One of the “popular” girls in my class, who told me it was a great idea despite knowing I was going to get shot down immediately. "She made sure to be front and centre when I asked him out on the playground in front of EVERYONE. Of course he rejected me, but at that point it was still okay to use the excuse, “My mom says I can’t have a girlfriend yet.” I was a little heartbroken, but I believed him. Then shortly after he started dating my best friend. Now that we’re in college and I see him on social media as beautiful as I remember, I’m tempted to reach out but I also don’t want to relive the worst day of 12-year-old me’s life again." – aprilludgate 13 Did their homework for them Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF Nickolodeon "He was working to finish his degree via correspondence and working full-time. I volunteered to “help with" (read: do completely) his assignments because they were similar to the classes I was taking. He got A’s in those classes at least." – SparkleKate 14 Wrote them Shakespearean sonnets "Freshman year of high school, I mailed a boy I had a crush on a letter littered with references to Romeo and Juliet on Valentine’s Day. It was so eloquent and lovely, and I wrote him Shakespearean sonnets to match (though he never read them). He said no." – emilytheit 15 Wrote them a musical Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF Paramount Pictures "My senior year of high school, I wrote a full length musical, cast myself as the lead and my ex-boyfriend as my love interest...all so that I could kiss him again. "It was a successful, albeit pretty pathetic move, but on the bright side – the musical itself turned out to be pretty good!" – terriblymikie 16 Left them a voicemail "Years ago, I worked at a CVS and was covering the photo counter. A guy came in to drop off his film. I was instantly smitten. He was gorgeous with a great smile. I couldn’t get him out of my head, and so the next day, l got his phone number from the order and left him a voicemail. I told him who I was, that I was new in town and would love for him to show me around the city. "He didn’t call me back, but he did show up the next day to pick up his pictures – with his boyfriend." – Jobethru 17 Declared their love on camera Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF youtube.com "I had a major crush on a coworker. Every year our company would hold a huge NYE holiday bash. They hired videographers and photographers who would go around taking video and photos which were broadcast on a huge screen at the end. I was drunk on champagne and confessed to a friend that I was in love with our coworker and that I lusted over him. I said my New Year’s Eve resolution was to seduce him. Little did I know this was captured on video and displayed at the end for my entire company’s viewing pleasure and my absolute horrification. What was worse was the video immediately after mine was of him wishing his fiancé a happy new year as she was abroad visiting family. Took me a long time to live that down!" – lpaigenyc 18 Became a rom-com heroine "The day I graduated college and moved back across the country, I called my friend with benefits crying from the airport and told him I loved him. He...did not feel the same. It turns out the stress of graduating and starting my adult life caused me to think I was a rom-com heroine. Everyone else at gate just thought I was crazy. Mortifying." – natasham12 19 Left them a love note in a Wham album Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF Colombia "I wrote a love letter to the guy I had a two-year crush on and I hid it in a Wham! album (yeah, go ahead, laugh) I had bought him as his Christmas gift. I was too scared to tell him in person, so I just gave him the album and waited for him to read my message. "Two weeks later, he told me he "wasn't ready for a serious relationship", but that I was a 'very brave girl'. "What he didn't realize was that you don't need courage to write a love letter. You just need a pen, and a piece of paper. You need courage to keep your head up while someone is turning you down, and I wasn't brave at all." 20 Carried a giant bear around for them "One time my boyfriend got me this giant bear without telling me and instead of having someone in my family come pick it up and take it home he wanted me to carry it around everywhere knowing that this bear was almost as tall as me. I endured comments about my height and how I looked carrying around such a big bear. I was super embarrassed about the attention I was getting from everyone but I loved him too much to ever say no to his request." – NerdyBuzz 21 Followed them from baseball to the theatre Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF Twitter: @SYYCO1 "I was a freshman and was mistakenly enrolled into 7th period P.E., which was meant for athletes to hold practice hours during school. This was not meant for folks of my (at the time) physical caliber, but I asked to stay. The coaches agreed. "I first trained with the baseball crew and though I was terrified of my body and how I might be received, they were all very kind to me — one senior was particularly encouraging. I began to crush on him and fell into a 9th-grade version of puppy love (from my end). The baseball player was also a thespian and earned a star role that year. I decided to volunteer as an usher so that I could watch the show and be supportive. "At the end, during his bows, I went up alongside the stage with a huge bouquet of roses, in front of the entire auditorium. My face was red, body was shaking, and I stuttered a quick remark because I was stupidly nervous. He and others could have easily been cruel, but he graciously accepted and thanked me in front of his audience. As he went to hug me, my stomach filled with butterflies, the first time I had experienced such feelings. I am fond of this memory and am amazed at how confident my execution had been, despite my utter embarrassment." – Catherine Frederick (Facebook) Want to be featured in more posts like this Follow the BuzzFeed Community on Facebook and Twitter Share This ArticleFacebook PinterestTwitterMailLink BuzzFeed DailyKeep up with the latest daily buzz with the BuzzFeed Daily newsletter! This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.
