YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food This supermarket champagne was just voted better than Moët et Chandon By You Magazine - November 19, 2018 Champagne is a pivotal part of the festive season, but the celebratory tipple can also leave a dent in our wallets due to its hefty price tags. Luckily, that won’t have to be the case this Christmas, as the Co-op has just been named Which? Best Buy for its own-brand champagne, beating luxury brands such as Moët et Chandon to the title. Getty Images Well and truly reinforcing the idea of not judging a book by its cover, the supermarket’s Les Pionniers NV Champagne came out on top following a taste test by the publication. It scored an impressive 78 percent after being judged by sommeliers, wine experts and writers from around the world. The winning bottle, priced at just £19 was joint first place with Mumm Cordon Rouge in the blind tests by Which? experts. The Co-op bubbly is almost half the price of a bottle of Moët and replaces last year’s winners, Waitrose. The experts who took part in the taste test praised the champagne by describing it as ‘elegant and well-balanced’. Co-operative Les Pionniers Champagne, £19, Co-op Commenting on the results, Harry Rose, editor of Which? magazine, said: ‘We’re delighted to be raising a glass this Christmas to an excellent best-buy champagne for less than £20, proving that you don’t have to pay through the nose for delicious fizz.’ He’s not wrong there. Champagnes by budget supermarkets Lidl and Aldi also featured on the list with the publication pointing out that both Lidl’s Comte de Senneval Brut and Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny, each priced at just £12, were ‘commendable but did not make it into the top flight.’ Just last week, Aldi released their ‘mini wine cellar’, a genius storage solution which can hold up to six bottles. The product is sold as a set, with 750ml of Château Les Mauberts Bordeaux 2017 (a rich, fruity red) already secured inside. And what’s more? It costs just £9.99.
