YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Interiors Want to shop independent Here’ s the curated collection that’ s done the legwork for you By You Magazine - October 18, 2018 In the midst of endless chains and online retailers, supporting your local, independent high street has never been more important – but it’s not always easy to get there and do it in person. Now, a new collaboration between journalist and co-host of popular podcast The High Low Pandora Sykes and boutique curation website Trouva is about to tip the balance back in your favour – and the favour of the businesses who need it most. Trouva To shine a light on up-and-coming brands and niche local makers, Pandora has created an edit of her favourite products across fashion, homeware and accessories – all from Trouva’s community of independent boutiques. ‘The high street holds a nostalgic place in any Brit’s heart, but in recent years we have come to misunderstand it as a place only for gargantuan retail chains and mass consumption,’ says Pandora. ‘Whilst it’s true that it’s harder than ever for boutiques to thrive thanks to a decrease in footfall, the consumer is also more invested than ever in a curated experience. We all want unique pieces and someone to cut through the stuff for us – whether that be for our home, wardrobe, or present drawer.’ Prices for her picks start from just £3.95 for a Madam Stolz coffee glass and range up to £490 for a Ganni silk wrap dress, but all of the pieces have something in common; they champion brands that are worth discovering, and that will take pride of place in your personal collection. Time to get treasure hunting. Pandora’ s top 3 independent boutiques Diverse Pandora says: ‘What I love about this store is the beautiful curation of clothes, which are completely up my street.’ Saskia Lamche opened Diverse at No. 148 Fortess Road, NW5 in 2016. The story begins in the mid-1980s in Islington, when the landmark boutique at No. 294 Upper St was established by Saskia’s mother Gabrielle Parker. After completing an MA in Textiles for Fashion at St. Martins, Saskia learned the trade firstly as a buyer, working alongside Gabrielle for many years before taking over the running of Diverse in the early ’00s. Diverse remains one of London’s most vibrant and influential boutiques, with a product mix that appeals to a varied range of fashion lovers. W.A.Green Pandora says: ‘What drives me crazy about this boutique is it’s sense of colour, it is incredibly fun’ Inspired by California’s carefree and crafty aesthetic, W.A.Green is a showcase of colour and contemporary design. Located in Shoreditch and run by Zoe Anderson, this bright boutique presents an edit of homewares from an array of exciting brands including Keith Haring and Atelier Stella. Intrigued by the growing link between fashion and interior trends, Zoe selects products which have close ties to the fashion world with a number sourced from brands with a fashion heritage. The Restoration Pandora says: ‘This boutique is beautiful because it’s an amazing space, you can totally tell it used to be an old ballroom.’ Located in Stoke Newington, London, The Restoration features an array of quality products for the home and is founded by Sophie Jones and Spud MacBain. Stocking everything from clocks to quirky prints and classic items for the kitchen, the boutique has become a go-to destination for home accessories with products to suit a range of interior styles, from the contemporary to the traditional.
