YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Prince Philip set to make royal history with this phenomenal achievement By You Magazine - August 29, 2018 Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is about to hit an incredible milestone in the record books. It’s his birthday so he will be turning 98-years-old on 10 June meaning Prince Philip will be the oldest ever-male royal in British history, according to a new report. Married to Queen Elizabeth since 1947, Philip is also the third longest-living British royal in history. Preceding him was Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester who died in 2004 aged 102, and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, who died in 2002 aged 101. You may think you can guess who the favourite member of the royal family is: Meghan Markle? Kate Middleton? The Queen herself, perhaps? These are all valid choices, and quite frankly, we’d agree with any one of them – but apparently we’d be wrong. Rex Features According to Matt Smith, who plays Prince Philip in the first two season’s of hit Netflix series The Crown, the Queen’s other half is actually the most popular member of the family within the royal household. Speaking to Variety, the British actor said: ‘One of the interesting challenges for me [in researching the role] was that I felt there was a sort of a misconception and a preconception about him, which reduced him a bit. And actually all the research I did found him to be brilliantly funny, very clever, very popular.’ ‘In the royal house he’s the most popular of all of them. If you’ve talked to any of the staff, Philip’s the one they all love really.’ Getty Images ‘I think more than a lot of them, he’s a bit more of a man of the people,’ he continued. ‘The royal protocol hasn’t dogged him in quite the same way his whole life and there’s a sort of rebellion in him and a naughtiness and a cheekiness. I think he’s quite affable and open by all accounts with the staff. They all love him.’ Somehow, we don’t find that hard to believe. However, Smith will be handing over his role as Prince Philip to Tobias Menzies as the series enters a new time frame. ‘I pass it on with a smile and a good luck,’ he told the publication. ‘I’d rather be doing two years on something than seven. I think it’s very difficult to sustain seven years doing anything creatively and I think that’s one of the virtues of the show.’ RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR 50 of the best celebrity Halloween costumes of all time Shirley Ballas ‘ Strictly gave me back my hope’ Davina McCall discusses how men can help women going through the menopause Popular in Celebrity Beauty vlogger Nic Chapman opens up about her diagnosis and troubled August 22, 2017 Quickfire with Strictly veteran Anton Du Beke December 5, 2017 Yolanda Kettle reveals what it’ s like playing the other woman February 12, 2018 The billion-dollar baby club The celebrity children living it large April 15, 2018 Tom and Giovanna Fletcher talk married life and working with your June 3, 2018 Jacqueline Gold ‘ I want to give women confidence’ July 15, 2018 Quickfire Comedian Alex Horne on Gary The Gorilla losing his trousers August 26, 2018 ‘ I’ m probably overindulgent with him’ Elizabeth Hurley reveals the most important September 30, 2018 One s best friends The Queen’ s corgis and their doggy dynasty October 28, 2018 Ruth Wilson will play her own grandmother in this new BBC November 21, 2018 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
