Iconic interiors makeover show Changing Rooms is returning to our screens. Channel 4 While Davina McCall was first announced as the host of the new series, she has since had pull out due to scheduling issues, so it has now been announced that Naked Attraction presenter Anna Richardson will be taking over hosting duties. The original BBC show, hosted by Carol Smilie, first aired in 1996. It introduced us to designers including Linda Barker, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Anna Ryder Richardson, and of course, ‘Handy Andy’ Kane. It ran for an impressive 17 seasons before finally coming to an end in 2004. The original Changing Rooms team at the National Television Awards in 1998. Image: Rex Features Now 16 years later, its making a triumphant return on Channel 4. This new version of the series ‘gives it a fresh lick of paint for an era of pinspiration and insta-interiors,’ according to the official release. Does that sound up your street? Get a sneak peak of the series here… Speaking of her new presenting role, Anna said: ‘What an honour to be joining the Changing Rooms team, one of my favourite shows from when I first started in TV. ‘This series is an absolute classic and I can’t wait to see the designs the legendary Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and the brilliant Jordan and Russell of 2LG come up with for our homeowners.’ The revival also features carpenter Tibby. We all know Changing Rooms wouldn’t be Changing Rooms without Laurence, who said that producers had managed to ‘coax’ him back for this new iteration. ‘It’s taken quite a lot of coaxing to get me under the Changing Rooms banner once more, but nothing like as much coaxing as it’s going to take to squeeze those leather trousers back on,’ he joked. Rex Features Rumours of a revival began circulating this summer, with a source telling the same publication: ‘Not only did [Changing Rooms] spawn a long line of copycat makeover shows, it still retains a cult following among a whole generation of fans. ‘C4 execs would like to tap back into some of that telly magic and exploit the current nostalgia for bygone shows.’ The new-look Changing Rooms will air on Channel 4 at 8pm on 18 August. The series will join the ongoing line-up of 90s comebacks, including Queer Eye, 10 Years Younger and How to Look Good Naked. We’ve got our fingers firmly crossed for Ground Force to follow suit.
