YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Your first look at the BBC adaptation of Les Misérables starring Olivia Coleman By You Magazine - October 16, 2018 It’s been six years since the big budget Hollywood version of Les Mis hit cinemas – and with such an A-List cast (Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne to name a handful), any new adaptations have a lot to live up to. BBC Studio But the BBC’s upcoming six-part reworking of Victor Hugo’s classic novel about the French revolution, is shaping up to be pretty impressive. Dominic West will star as protagonist Jean Valjean (the role Jackman played in the 2012 film), while Lily Collins will play the tragic Fantine, and Golden Globe nominee David Oyelwo takes on conflicted police inspector Javert. And if that hasn’t piqued your interest already, Olivia Colman (who will be taking over from Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown) will also star as the awful Madame Thénadier. Talk about a dream cast. Lily Collins as Fantine (BBC STUDIOS / LOOKOUT POINT/ROBERT VIGLASKY) BBC One has just released first-look images, which has got us very excited indeed. Playing the three younger characters locked in one of the most famous literary love triangle’s are rising stars Ellie Bamber (Nocturnal Animals) as Cosette, Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country) as Marius, and Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story) as Eponine. Dominic West as Jean ValJean (BBC STUDIOS/ LOOKOUT POINT/ROBERT VIGLASKY) In case you’re wondering, this version won’t be a musical. The writer charged with adapting Hugo’s epic novel is Andrew Davies, who wrote the beloved and unrivalled 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle) along with the 2016 BBC adaptation of War & Peace. Davies also worked on the hugely popular Mr. Selfridge and Little Dorrit, so we know we’re in safe hands here. David Oyelowo as Javert (BBC STUDIOS / LOOKOUT POINT/ROBERT VIGLASKY) An air date for BBC One’s Les Mis is yet to be confirmed but it looks like it’ll be sometime in early 2019. Filming – which has taken place in France and Belgium – started back in February. We’re thinking this would be the perfect Sunday night drama to settle down to.
