YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity World on Fire The new BBC WWII drama starring Helen Hunt By You Magazine - October 12, 2018 Lovers of a gripping BBC drama, we’ve found something amazing to add to your upcoming viewing list. The channel has commissioned a new landmark series by Peter Bowker (who also wrote The A Word, Marvellous, and Eric And Ernie), and it’s just been confirmed that Helen Hunt will be taking the lead. World on Fire will be a World War II epic, telling the story of the global conflict through the lives of ordinary people from all sides, in countries including Britain, Poland, France, Germany and the United States. The first series will be comprised of seven episodes and tell the story of the first year of the war, starting with the German invasion of Poland in September 1939 and ending with the Battle of Britain. Getty Images Oscar winner Helen will star alongside a stellar cast including Olivier Award-winning actress (Mum, Phantom Thread), and rising Brit actors Jonah Hauer-King (Little Women, Howard’s End) and Julia Brown (The Last Kingdom, Shetland). ‘World On Fire tells the hidden human stories within the big historical events we think we know,’ explained Peter in a BBC release. ‘These are the stories of the ordinary people who shaped our world. Stories of loyalty and brutality, courage and fear, hopes, stories of love and loss, hopes and dreams forged in extraordinary times.’ Getty Images Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama, added: ‘Pete’s funny, humane and poignant writing gives us a perspective on those early days of the Second World War which we have never seen before.’ Filming for the show starts this week in Prague, and the shoot will also use locations including Manchester, London, Paris and Berlin. Sadly, there’s no word from the BBC yet as to when World on Fire will hit our screens – but based on that synopsis, it can’t come soon enough!
