YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty BEAUTY CONFIDENTIAL The heroes worth the hype By You Magazine - October 14, 2018 My theme this week is a simple one: newness. New is a high-volume daily occurrence in beauty land, with launches rolling on and on. But out of all the latest products, these are the key pieces I’d really like to highlight – the ones I call first-raters. Each, in its own way, is making a difference to my beauty life and will, I hope, make a difference to yours, too. 1. Laura Mercier Glow Powder Brush, £29, spacenk.com. When Laura Mercier recently launched a glow version of her bestselling Translucent Loose Setting Powder it was a good-news beauty day: a faint pearlescence added to the formula. But it’s the brush that was launched alongside that has changed things for me. Specially shaped to sculpt the curves of the face, it can be used to apply contour and highlighter, and, of course, any other powder, too. 2. Nars Brow Perfector, £20, narscosmetics.co.uk. In recent years I’ve largely switched to eyebrow gels, brushed on like a mascara (L’Oréal Paris and Chanel are my favourites) and I should probably point out that I am not into high-definition brows or looking ‘on fleek’. But this Perfector from Nars has turned me back towards a drawn-on brow. It goes on easily and gives a believable colour and finish. Available in eight shades. 3. Bourjois Rouge Fabuleux, £8.99, boots.com. This is a satin-finish lipstick, so it gives a bit of a sheen and shimmer. It also lasts well yet feels like more of a tinted balm on lips. As I have a fairly small mouth and not exactly full lips I tend to prefer lippies that give a bit of gloss and thereby make more of what I’ve got. 4. Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic in Pillow Talk, £30, charlottetilbury.com. This top-selling shade of Charlotte’s lipstick is now available as a pinky/ champagne blush to give a lovely natural flush to the face. To see how it works on all skin tones, check out her website. 5. Dyson Airwrap Styler, £399.99, dyson.co.uk. I know this is expensive – maybe list it in Christmas wishes now – but this wet-to-dry hairstyler will revolutionise your hair-curling life, especially if, like me, you’re cack-handed at blow-drying. Lightweight – the styler features the same motor as the Supersonic hairdryer – it also has a cutting-edge approach to curling, utilising something called the coanda effect. This is where high-pressure air passes over a curved surface and wraps around it rather than bounces off. Deployed in this tool via six air slots in the barrel, the result is that when you hold your hair up to the styler, it is pulled almost magnetically, wrapping around the tool without you having to twist or turn. No tangles. No moving parts. All you have to do is switch the top depending on which side of your head you’re curling to ensure the air flows in the right direction. Comes in two versions for different hair types. 6. 6 SVR Sensifine Masque, £12, lookfantastic.com (available from 22 October). My skin is slightly sensitive but not as sensitive as the skin this mask is aimed at. Still, when my face needs some R&R this gives it a good boost of hydration, calms down redness and leaves it feeling healthy. 7. Christian Louboutin Beauty Metallic Eye Colour, £38, selfridges.com. I usually favour a very natural-looking eye but this creamy shadow – especially in deep, luxurious green Andalusite – is so easy to rub on that it’s encouraging me to go for bolder eyes. Plus it doesn’t fade or settle into all the creases. 8. CeraVe Eye Repair Cream, £11, feelunique.com. This cult skincare brand is known for packing much more punch than its price tag suggests. An easily absorbed cream complete with hydrating hyaluronic acid is a must-reach eye saviour for me. Feature by Edwina Ings-Chambers. Beauty assistant Alice Robertson.
