Well, wonder no more – because a new survey has revealed just that. Conducted by online bookshop Wordery, the research has confirmed the 10 most popular books in the UK and you won’t be surprised to learn that none other than J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series came out on top. Yep, of the 2,000 people who took part in the survey, 14.4 percent voted the JK Rowling series as their literary go-to. It was closely followed by the Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R Tolkien, while Dan Brown’s famous The Da Vinci Code was placed as the third most popular book. Turns out we Brits love our fantasy thrillers. However, the survey also highlighted a gender divide with Rowling the most popular among women (24%), and men preferring Stephen King (13.1%). As for location, Wordery suggests that Glaswegians are the nation’s biggest bookworms, with people reading for an average of four hours and 20 minutes per week. They are closely followed by residents of Brighton, who spend an average of four hours and 16 minutes per week, while those in Cardiff were crowned the nation’s third biggest readers, with a reading average of three hours and 57 minutes per week.
