Tinder, Bumble, Hinged – they’re just a few examples of the popular apps dominated by millennials. So, what if you’re in your fifties looking for love online? Getty Images There may not be much of a mature crowd on the aforementioned apps, but a new invention by the investors behind Bumble is here to change that. Meet Lumen – the first dating app targeting single men and women over 50. While there have always been dating websites and apps welcoming people of all ages, Lumen is the first of its kind designed to specifically for those over 50 in order for them to meet potential partners of the same age and interests. Most significantly, the app ensures the safety and security of each and every one of their members by verifying the photos of every single member, and making sure that each profile contains at least three different photos and a detailed bio. Lumen also hope that their users will make the most of the platform to create meaningful conversations with one another so that individuals can develop genuine bonds as opposed to the ‘hook-up culture’ typically associated with dating apps. Getty Images Charly Lester, Lumen’s CMO, revealed that the idea for the app was birthed out of a desire to embody the ‘values of the over-50s.’ ‘Over the years people have often asked me where their single parents should be dating, and I used to genuinely struggle to find an answer. In Lumen, we have created a space which embodies the values of our over-50s audience, and built the type of community we would happily recommend to our friends’ parents,’ she explained. Sounds promising, right? If you’re keen to give it a go, all you need to do to sign up is download the app on your phone, complete the registration process, add a great photo, and you’re good to go.
