YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman is joining the Mail on Sunday with a new ‘ direct and honest’ column By You Magazine - September 21, 2018 Former Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman will be ‘direct and honest’ in her new column starting in the Mail on Sunday this weekend. The writer, who stepped down from the fashion bible after 25 years as editor in 2017, is eager to comment on a wide range of subjects, from Britain’s values to the country’s institutions and even politics. But she won’t just be following the agenda in her notebook-style page, Shulman says that her forthright opinions and robust analysis will spark debate, and ‘start conversations’. She adds: ‘I’m excited to have a broad remit, and to be commenting on the news with the speed and immediacy you can only have on a newspaper. ‘This is a huge opportunity to engage in a wide readership, and a privilege to have a voice on a big national title. ‘Of course, after 25 years at Vogue, fashion will be in the mix, but I’m not writing about where to find the perfect white shirt. I’ll be commenting about what’s happening in the fashion world, as I will be about every area.’ The Mail on Sunday And she won’t be mincing her words. ‘I’ll be direct and honest. The best columns are, and I’m not interested in creating a fake persona,’ she says. ‘I’d like to think that I’ll also be starting conversations, and not always following on from the news agenda. And I’m prepared for people not always agreeing with me.’ One of the greatest thrills for Shulman is engaging the Mail on Sunday’s brilliant readers about the issues that matter most. She says: ‘We’ve got a fantastic press in this country and a great breadth of writing and now I’m adding my voice to that.’ Shulman left Vogue magazine in 2017, in a departure dubbed ‘rather stylish’ by colleagues. Her legacy includes healthy sales (she boosted circulation in an increasingly tough market), decades of brilliant copy, and world-class imagery. And her role in fashion history was cemented in a behind-the-scenes BBC documentary Absolutely Fashion, and her book, Inside Vogue: A Diary of my 100th Year. Read Alexandra Schulman’s first column for the Mail On Sunday this weekend, Sunday 23 September.
