Do you go for the classic ‘Sooty’ for a black cat, ‘Rover’ for a dog? A traditional name like ‘Kevin’ or ‘Richard’, or a name that you would genuinely consider giving a child because you like it so much? Does the name you’ve got in mind even suit your pet’s look and personality? Basically, it’s kind of tricky. Getty Images The truth is, they may be cute-as-buttons, fluffy little puppies and kittens when they first arrive, but name them wrong and you’ll be hollering something regrettable across a park in front of everyone for the foreseeable future – which is never a good thing. Luckily, there is one thing that might help: seeing what others deem as great pet name choices. In a new survey, conducted by John Lewis and Partners (officially their new name, FYI) Pet Insurance, the store analysed data from its customer base to find out which are the most popular dog and cat names of 2018. The list definitely reveals what’s in fashion at the moment and that’s definitely human names. Coming in at number one in the dog category is Poppy (which is the name of Sandra Bullock’s ultra-cute three-legged dog), followed by Bella and then Molly. Out of the entire ten only one male name featured and that was Alfie. In the cat category, the number one slot was taken by Bella, then Tilly, then Lola and actually not one of the top 10 names were male. Surprised? We kinda were. Below, you can see the full list of most popular cat and dog names. Would you opt for any of these? Top 10 dog names in 2018 1. Poppy 2. Bella 3. Molly 4. Alfie 5. Charlie 6. Daisy 7. Rosie 8.
