New research has proven that women in the UK find men with beards more attractive than those who are clean shaven. That’s right, a study by the Journal of Evolutionary Biology titled ‘The Masculinity Paradox’ asked 8,520 women to rate a variety of men based on how attractive they are. When the results came back, they showed that all of the women asked preferred men with beards – yes, every single one of them. Getty Images While the news may not come as a surprise following the big beard trend in recent years, it puts the debate to bed once and for all. We’ve watched endless celebrity men grow their facial hair throughout the years – David Beckham, Prince Harry, Jamie Dornan, Jared Leto, the list goes on – and if you ask us, it has definitely enhanced their overall attractiveness. But it doesn’t stop there. While the news may not come as a surprise following the big beard trend in recent years, it puts the debate to bed once and for all. We’ve watched endless celebrity men grow their facial hair throughout the years – David Beckham, Prince Harry, Jamie Dornan, Jared Leto, the list goes on – and if you ask us, it has definitely enhanced their overall attractiveness. But it doesn’t stop there. Getty Images Reflecting on their study, the researchers at the Journal of Evolutionary Biology said: ‘Our findings suggest that beardedness may be attractive when judging long‐term relationships as a signal of intrasexual formidability and the potential to provide direct benefits to females.’ Getty Images This suggests that as well as being more attractive, men with beards are also believed to be better long-term partners than people with no facial hair. Apparently, this is because men with beards tend to look more ‘manly’, which – according to the study – shows their ‘masculine social dominance.’ They are also believed to be better lovers. Men with stubble on the other hand turned out to be best for one night stands rather than long term relationships. In fact, they came out on top as the most attractive overall – just don’t expect them to stick around.
