YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty BEAUTY KNOW HOW Say hello to the future of haircare By You Magazine - September 2, 2018 Serums, scrubs, masks: we’re used to using all of them in our day-to-day face care. But how about above the hairline? When luxury skincare brand Sisley brought out its new scalp serum last year it was the marker for a sea-change in the hair industry. Now so many haircare products are taking a cue from the skincare arena. And when the founder of Becca Cosmetics, Defaf Alamri, starts a new brand – London Labs – dedicated to treating the scalp as comprehensively as our face, you know the trend is here to stay. Here are our key picks: The aforementioned Sisley Hair Rituel Revitalizing Fortifying Serum (£135, sisley-paris.co.uk) is all about strengthening the hair bulb and thereby the hair root to help guard against damage. It’s not cheap, but its followers are very dedicated. Ouai Scalp & Body Scrub (£32, cultbeauty.co.uk) smooths limbs, unclogs and exfoliates your scalp and stimulates blood-flow for stronger, healthier hair. And it smells delicious. If you suffer with claggy roots no matter which shampoos you try, IGK Trust Issues Instant Scalp Rebalancing Treatment (£25, spacenk.com) is a wonder product. Sprayed directly on to the scalp it instantly refreshes and cools (without disturbing your style), and the clear formula leaves no residue. It balances your scalp’s pH with natural astringent apple cider vinegar and nourishes with yuzu lemon extract so your skin doesn’t overcompensate with any extra sebum. London Labs Scalp Refresher AHA Peel and Mask Duo (£26, thelondonlabs.com) gently exfoliates old skin cells and sebum on your scalp as well as encouraging cell renewal – it’s like a detox facial for your roots. IGK Low Key Cleansing Walnut Scalp Scrub (£31, spacenk.com) is refreshingly minty and sulphate-free. It uses apple cider vinegar to clarify and walnut oil to hydrate, leaving your scalp rebalanced and your hair soft. Cult skincare brand The Ordinary has branched out with its first hair product, the Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density (£15.80, deciem.com). Containing its patented Redensyl complex with extracts known for encouraging scalp circulation, this powerful serum makes for healthy hair follicles. For multi-masking try Davines Circles Chronicles Hair and Scalp Mask Sachets (£8, libertylondon.com from 15 September). The latest, Let it Go, features grey clay and brahmi oil to hydrate and condition. Or apply this to roots, and an alternative mask – Spotlight to boost shine – on the lengths. The super-stylers your hair needs now GHD Platinum+ – the latest styler from GHD (stands for Good Hair Day, btw) – is, they say, its best ever. Agreed. Using a form of predictive technology involving sensors all the way along the plate, it can detect the weight and thickness of the hair in its path and adjust the energy pumped in to produce the heat accordingly. Meaning an even, constantly maintained temperature of 185 degrees and less heat damage. Tests showed 70 per cent stronger hair as a result, as well as more shine and more enhanced colour. If you’re looking to upgrade look no further. £175 from tomorrow, ghdhair.com The T3 Singlepass Wave not only looks cool (white ceramic), it’s also practical (it comes with a heat-resistant glove) and a microchip ensures a constant level of heat to make easy and fast beachy waves. If you’ve always struggled, we’ve found this to be transformational. £120, t3haircare.co.uk Need a tress destress TO TAME FRIZZ Kérastase Baume Miracle (£34.50, kerastase.co.uk) smells delicious and does indeed work miracles on dry, damaged hair. But that’s not all – smoothed on to thirsty cuticles and elbows, it sinks in quickly and soothes instantly. Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Overnight Recovery (£20, percyandreed.com). Rub this into dry hair before bed. It dries in quickly, won’t come off on your pillows and leaves hair looking glossy and de-frizzed the next morning. Easiest haircare ever. FOR VOLUME Living Proof Dry Volume Blast (£25, livingproof.co.uk). Using a special molecule which is larger and lighter than the norm, this silicone-free product can help give volume to even the most hair-challenged. Fudge Xpander Gelée Shampoo (£11.95, beautybay.com) leaves hair feeling fuller with noticeable lift at the roots.
