YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food Lidl has launched a new Easter wine that tastes like hot cross buns By You Magazine - April 4, 2019 It’s a well established fact by now that the winemakers at Lidl are some of the best, and its no secret that the German supermarket has pulled out all the stops for their Easter offerings this year. First, we got the gin and prosecco chocolate egg, then we were surprised by their one-of-a-kind bunny-shaped chicken nuggets and now, they’ve outdone themselves by launching a hot cross bun flavoured wine. Getty Images The popular supermarket has released a new range of sweet, vegan wine for the spring season and according to experts, the light tipple tastes a lot like the classic baked good. The Moscatel Reserva de Familia is sold for just £6.99 per bottle and is made with notes of raisin and fig – much of why they are reminiscent of the traditional Easter treats, which are loved for their combination of sweet and spiced flavours. To achieve the flavour, the winemakers sun dried Muscat grapes for ten to 15 days on specialised esparto dry grass – a species created from grasses of North Africa and southern Europe. The wine was then matured in oak barrels, in order to achieve a sweet, syrupy texture and enhance the hot cross bun-esquse flavour. Lidl Moscatel Reserva de Familia, £6.99, Lidl ‘This rare Spanish wine from the historic Malaga region boasts unique aromas of raisins and sweet spice, very much like that of the cinnamon and nutmeg flavours in hot cross buns,’ said Richard Bampfield, Lidl’s Master of Wine. ‘An exciting find and superb value, this wine is the perfect indulgence for all your Easter treat needs.’ The Moscatel Reserva de Familia wine is now available to buy in Lidl stores across the country. But if all the hot cross buns talk has made you peckish for the real deal, then we’re here to help too. We’ve listed all of the delicious (and unusual) hot cross bun flavours to try out this Easter – rhubarb and custard, anyone?
