Of course, every royal has a team of experts working behind the scenes to make sure their fashion choices are hits rather than misses – but according to a new report, the Duchess of Sussex has also received some tips from a source much closer to home. Getty Images When Prince Harry and Meghan were set to undertake their royal tour of Fiji in 2018, the duchess was said to be set on borrowing a jewelled tiara from the Royal Collection for the fancy state dinner they would attend during the trip. However, a source has since told the Mail on Sunday that her father-in-law Prince Charles saved her from making a serious fashion faux-pas at the event. Charles apparently advised Meghan that such styles should be avoided in parts of the Commonwealth where it can be seen as reminiscent of a bygone era or ‘extravagant’. Getty Images ‘Meghan did not understand all of this because she was new to the role and so Prince Charles told her that it would not be appropriate,’ the insider told the paper. ‘It was very kindly done.’ They added that ‘the prince, having travelled to all these places many times over many years, is very well placed to give advice on such matters.’ Getty Images With Charles’ words of wisdom helping to inform her wardrobe choices, Meghan instead opted for a pair of stunning diamond chandelier earrings, also thought to be from the Royal Collection, to accessorise her full-length caped Safiyaa gown. The 16-day autumn tour saw Harry and Meghan visiting cities in Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand, with the duchess giving us some serious outfit inspiration in every location. Her navy skirt and jumper from Givenchy, which she wore on the last day of their stay in New Zealand, proved so popular that Marks & Spencer released a dress in an almost identical style – although theirs was priced at just £39.50.
