YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Everything we know about Prince Louis as he celebrates his third birthday By You Magazine - April 23, 2021 The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child, Prince Louis, is the youngest member of William and Kate’s brood. But due to his young age – he only just turned three, after all – Prince Louis’ parents have kept him out of the limelight as much as possible. In fact, aside from spotting his adorable face in a couple of select royal family portraits, we haven’t seen or heard much about little Louis. Getty However, that doesn’t mean he is a complete stranger to us as there are some titbits we know about Kate and William’s youngest. Here are just a few… He rode a bike to his first day of nursery View this post on Instagram A post shared by YOU Magazine (@youmagazine) To mark his third birthday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared this lovely snap of Louis on the Kensington Royal Instagram account. In the caption, it said: ‘Taken earlier this week by The Duchess before he left for his first day of nursery.’ He’ ll stop and smell the flowers literally Getty Images Mum Kate doesn’t often chat about Louis’s personality, but during a visit to the Royal Horticultural Society in Wisley, Surrey (where she wore £1.50 earrings and £13 shoes, by the way), the duchess revealed that her second-born son has got quite an affinity for nature. A guest at the event named Sarah, who met Kate with her then 15-month-old daughter Matilda, reported: ‘She was just saying that her little boy Louis loves to smell flowers and he enjoys being out in the garden.’ And with Kensington Gardens on his doorstep, we bet little Louis gets plenty of time to indulge his hobby in the great outdoors. His name is loaded with meaning Getty Images Louis’ full name is Prince Louis Arthur Charles, and all three of his names certainly have a lot of meaning behind them. According to PEOPLE magazine, Prince Louis’ name is a nod to Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Prince Philip, whose grandfather was Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg. ‘The royal baby’s middle names of Charles and Arthur also hold special meaning. Charles, of course, is in honour of the baby boy’s grandfather, Prince Charles. And the name Arthur is a family tradition. Both dad William and grandfather Charles have it as a middle name,’ the magazine reported. Apparently, the name Louis, which has French and German origin, means ‘renowned warrior.’ Hence why France had 18 kings named Louis – the first being in the Carolingian Empire with King Louis I, the Debonaire (814-840), while the last was King Louis-Phillipe in Orleans (1830-1848). He’ s already followed plenty of royal traditions Getty Images Since his arrival, we’ve had just a few glimpses, but in them we know that he’s mirroring the journey of his big brother and sister. He was welcomed in to the world in the Lindo Wing in Paddington, and made his first appearance on the very same steps as the two Cambridge children who arrived before him. He also wore the same christening gown that has been used by the royals for generations – no matter which family you’re a part of, hand-me-downs are still part of the deal – and has appeared at Trooping the Colour, too. He is fifth in line for the throne Getty Images As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child, Prince Louis is fifth in line to the throne which means it is quite unlikely he will ever be king. He follows his older sister Princess Charlotte, who is fourth in line, his older brother Prince George who is third in line, his father Prince William who is second in line and his grandfather Prince Charles who is first in line for the throne and will reign after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. He broke a royal record Getty Images Prince Louis may be the youngest Cambridge, but he was also the heaviest, weighing in at 8lbs 7 oz when he was born. His birth weight made him the heaviest Cambridge baby and heir to the throne in at least 100 years – and 1lb heavier than cousin Archie Harrison, who weighed 8lb 6oz. He shares a birthday with some other popular A-listers View this post on Instagram A post shared by Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (@dukeandduchessofcambridge) Prince Louis was born on 23 April 2018. Fun fact: this means that he shares his birthday with some pretty popular celebrities including supermodel Gigi Hadid, who was born on the same date in 1995 and BAFTA winning British actor Dev Patel, who was born on 23 April 1990. He has an adorable nursery View this post on Instagram A post shared by Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (@dukeandduchessofcambridge) Prince Louis’ nursery, which was once also home to his older sister Charlotte and older brother George, is apparently decorated in a classic Peter Rabbit theme. Inspired by the famous children’s book, the room is said to be full of warm blues and whimsy. This is what he eats for breakfast When his mother Kate visited LEYF (London Early Years Foundation) Stockwell Gardens Nursery and Pre-school in London in January 2020, she served breakfast to the children and revealed what Prince Louis, Prince George and Princess Charlotte tuck into in the morning. The school’s manager Michelle Samuels told today.com: ‘She mentioned to the children that her own children enjoy apples and cereal in the morning, which sparked a conversation with the children about their own preference of fruits’.
