YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life Women get a much better night’ s sleep next to their dogs than their partners By You Magazine - March 22, 2019 While it’s true that our dogs are our best friends, it’s not often we let our furry bundles of joy sleep in bed with us. Yes, they can be excellent cuddle buddies and nothing is quite as adorable as witnessing your dog feeling warm and cosy under your duvet. But it’s no secret that sharing a bed with them also has its downsides; the loud snoring, sloppy face licks and twists and turns throughout the night are just a few – not to mention the fact that your bed sheets will be covered in hair. Getty Images However, despite this, new research has revealed that we – especially women – actually have a better night’s sleep with our dogs by our side. A study titled ‘An Examination of Adult Women’s Sleep Quality and Sleep Routines in Relation to Pet Ownership and Bedsharing‘ came to the conclusion after examining 962 women living in the USA to see how pet ownership impacted their sleep. They found that 55 per cent of participants let at least one of their dogs sleep in their bed, while 31 per cent shared their bed with at least one cat. The study also found that a further 57 per cent of participants also shared a bed with their human partner. Getty Images The research results concluded that while cats and human partners were ‘disruptive’, dogs were dreamy companions to share a bed with. Surprised? Neither are we. Sloppy kisses and occasional wiggles are a small prize to pay for a peaceful night’s sleep. And before you ask, the study confirmed that the size of your dog is irrelevant. So whether you’ve got a tiny pug or a massive guard dog, it sounds like the loving creatures have a special ability to comfort us throughout the night and ensure we have a good night’s sleep. Just when we thought we couldn’t love them any more!
