Des Willie Written by Jed Mercurio, the critically-acclaimed crime drama has been loved by the nation since its launch on BBC One back in 2012. Six years on and four seasons deep, the show still remains a favourite on British telly. And following the showstopping end to the previous season, the upcoming season is set to be the most gripping yet. Here’s everything we know about Line of Duty season 5 so far… What will Line of Duty season 5 be about Viewers will remember that the end of season four brought the revelation that Line of Duty’s network of ‘bent coppers’ were even larger and a lot more complex than AC-12 could have imagined. In fact, it became apparent that they had only scratched the surface of police corruption, so season five is bound to explore this in more depth. The BBC have kept really quiet about the potential plots but we do know what to expect in the first episode. However, according to Red, the season five opener will see Martin Compston’s character DS Steve Arnott receive a dating app message from a woman named Tina Watts, and as her picture pops up, fans will be in for a special surprise. Why? Because the woman playing Tina is Compston’s real wife, American actress Tianna Chanel Flynn. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Martin Compston (@mrmartincompston) That’s right. It’s a special family cameo. The couple married in Glasgow in 2016, with Compston’s Line of Duty co-stars Vicky McClure and Adrain Dunba there for the big day. Speaking on the Royal Television Society’s Anatomy of a Hit, the show’s writer, Mercurio, also said: ‘Season five feels like it’s very fresh territory.’ He added: ‘There are things we haven’t done before, characters we haven’t seen before and that I think’s part of the construction of the series.’ Aidan Monaghan Who will star in Line of Duty season 5 As fans will know, Line of Duty usually gets a guest star as the focus of each new investigation.
