YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel The world’ s most expensive cities to live in have been revealed By You Magazine - March 21, 2019 The Economist‘s Worldwide Cost Of Living Survey has revealed the top ten most expensive cities to live in in the world – and perhaps surprisingly, London did not make the cut. The survey revealed that in the top spot sits not one, but two cities, which were found to be equally as expensive to live in. Paris and Hong Kong were both declared the most expensive cities to live in, a surprise when considering last year neither one came first, with Hong Kong only sitting in fourth place in 2018. Getty Elsewhere on the top ten list, Asian and European cities dominated, with Osaka, Japan rising six positions to joint fifth, and Zurich, Geneva, and Copenhagen all making an appearance. Despite not being in the top ten, London did rise eight places to 22nd place, in part due to a surge in domestic prices. Getty Speaking about the results, Editor of the survey Roxana Slavcheva commented: ‘We note converging costs in traditionally more expensive cities like Paris, Singapore, Zurich, Geneva, Copenhagen and Hong Kong. It is a testament to globalization and the similarity of tastes and shopping patterns.’ The survey worked by evaluating the cost of over 150 items in 133 cities around the world. At the other end of the list was countries that have been experiencing political or economic disruptions, such as Caracas, Venezuela which took last place from war-torn Syria (which came second to last this year). Also at the cheapest end of the list were cities such as Nigeria’s Lagos and Pakistan’s Karachi. Take a look at the list of the top ten most expensive cities to live in here: 1. (tie) Singapore 1.
