YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Fashion Kate Middleton’ s St Patrick’ s Day brooch has a royal history By You Magazine - March 18, 2019 To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day yesterday, The Duchess of Cambridge participated in the traditional custom of presenting shamrocks to the Irish Guards – and she was certainly dressed for the occasion. Outfitted head to toe in deep green hues by Alexander McQueen, Kate also wore a beautiful gold and green shamrock brooch on her stylish coat. REX/Shutterstock While many of Kate’s jewellery pieces are inherited and borrowed from the likes of Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth, the shamrock brooch is reportedly unique in that it doesn’t actually belong to the royal family. The Cartier brooch is apparently loaned to members of the royal family for occasions such as this, by the Guard themselves. It features a textured shamrock shape with a single emerald in the center. The history of the brooch has seen royals including Princess Anne and The Queen’s Mother also wear it, as well as Princess Mary and Queen Alexandra, who apparently originally owned the piece. However, despite 2011, The Duchess Of Cambridge has been the exclusive wearer of the shamrock brooch. Rex Features/Shutterstock As well as the meaningful accessory, Kate also wore a pair of stunning green tourmaline and green amethyst Kiki McDonough earrings to accessorise her sophisticated ensemble. Both The Duchess Of Cambridge and Prince William were present to view the 350 soldiers, who marched on the Parade Square at Cavalry Barracks. The pair met members of the Regiment before posing for official Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess photographs, and meeting soldiers and their families afterwards. Getty Images Finishing their celebrations with a Guardsmen’s lunch, the longest-serving guardsman in the Battalion proposed a toast to Kate and William, who then brilliantly sipped on a pint of Guinness each. This is the first time in two years Kate was able to sip on her Guinness at the event, as last year she was pregnant with Prince Louis.
