And this week, your creativity could even earn you a totally free coffee. The Pay With A Poem project is an initiative started to celebrate World Poetry Day (21 March) and to encourage the writers among us to get creative. Getty Created by gourmet coffee producer Julius Meinl, in association with singer-songwriter Tom Odell, the initiative asks that you come up with a few lines of poetry in exchange for a cup of hot coffee. Not only do you get a free caffeinated beverage, you also could be the next Rupi Kaur, and just not know it yet! Luckily, this campaign helps you to unleash your inner poet. There are 15 coffee shops taking part in London, as well as all over the UK in cities including Nottingham and Sheffield. Locations in London include Clapham, Soho, Stratford, and Hammersmith. You can check out every location on the Pay With A Poem map. The campaign has been started in response to our increasing disconnection to traditional creativity, thanks in part to social media. Getty ‘The digital world is a space where I can sometimes struggle to find meaning,’ explained Tom Odell. ‘We see dozens of song lyrics, quotes and verse posted on Instagram every day, but how many of us can say we actually feel connected to that?’ He continued: ‘As anyone who follows me on Instagram will know, I am a real advocate of putting pen to paper. Whether I am at home, seeking inspiration over a morning coffee or travelling, I believe there is something very freeing in taking a moment out of the day to write.’ 2019 marks the sixth year of the Pay With A Poem campaign, and long may it continue!
