Whether we’re jetting off for a few days or a few weeks, we’ll fit as much as possible into our allocated luggage allowance – particularly when it comes to our beauty products. Hand luggage laws in the UK mean that we’re often limited to 100ml containers in limited quantities – but there are a number of clever concepts arriving on the scene that will allow you to free up space without sacrificing any areas of your daily routine. From solid perfume to toothpaste powder, here are eight non-liquid beauty buys to pick up before your next mini break. Bon voyage! Solid perfume Diptyque Do Son Solid Perfume, £34, Space NK Even the smallest perfume bottles tend to have an awkward shape that makes it hard to squeeze them into those tiny plastic bags. Solid perfume is a revelation – simply toss it in your carry-on case and you’re good to go. We’re big fans of Glossier’s You perfume solid, £19, with notes of musk, ambrette and iris root, and Diptyque do a great selection of solid fragrances too. Alternatively, if you’re wedded to your signature scent and it doesn’t come in solid form yet, you could try a Travolo perfume decanter. Shampoo bars Godiva shampoo bar, £7.50, Lush Not only do shampoo bars help to reduce the amount of plastic you use at home, they can also save valuable space for liquid products while you’re travelling. Lush’s affordable range last for an estimated 80 washes, and they even sell reusable £2.50 tins to pop them in before they go in your case. Dry shampoo Bumble and bumble Pret a Powder, £23, Boots If you’re only going away for a couple of days, you may even be able to get away with dry shampoo only. Many popular brands come in aerosol cans, which still carry airline restrictions, but Bumble & Bumble’s dry shampoo-slash-style extender Pret a Powder simply sprinkles out of the bottle as you shake. Pre-loaded sponges Foamie sponge, £7.99, ASOS Could Foamie spell the end of mini shower gel bottles? Available in four fragrances, from fruity to aloe, these sponges have a cleanser bar buried in their centre, and once wet, lather up beautifully. They’re also suitable for vegans, and free from parabens, silicones, sulphates. Buffing grains Bobbi Brown Buffing Grains, £33, John Lewis A good exfoliant will keep your skin looking vibrant your whole mini-break long – but you don’t have to make space in your liquid bag to carry one. Add water at your destination to Bobbi Brown’s Buffing Grains – made from Japanese adzuki bean powder – for a luxurious scrub that’ll soften, brighten and refresh in just one use. Powder foundation Original SPF 15 Mineral Foundation, £27, Bare Minerals Powder foundation is ideal for a summer trip – it’ll help to maintain a matte finish as the temparatures soar. Bare Minerals’ offering comes in 30 shades and has won numerous awards – but Mac’s Studio Fix Plus Powder Foundation (£24.50) and Elizabeth Arden’s Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation are also worth checking out. Tooth powder Natural toothpaste powder, £6.90, Georganics Georganics powders are intended as a replacement for toothpaste, and use sodium bicarbonate and magnesium carbonate to clean and whiten teeth naturally, as well as freshening breath. Who knows, you might even remain a convert when your holiday is over. Mineral sunscreen Sunforgettable Total Protection Brush-on Shield SPF 50, £46.50 A favourite of Kim Kardashian’s, who listed it as one of her favourite skincare products in a post on her website, Colorscience’s formulas give you a powerful shield from the sun in powder form. Apply it alone or over make-up for Broad Spectrum (UVA/UVB) protection.
