Love it or hate it, the ITV dating show gets everyone talking (and shouting ‘I’ve got a text!’) each year. We just can’t resist watching a bunch of attractive, young singletons parade around in swimwear trying to ‘couple up’ with each other while we sit at home in old baggy clothes. What better way to spend six nights of the week?! Love Island has been running for seven years now, so every year there’s usually something a little bit different about the set up. While we can expect the usual kind of contestants and trials, there’s one key part of the show that’s been axed this year after being dubbed ‘gross’ by viewers. Rex Mike Spencer, the executive producer of Love Island, confirmed the news for the 2022 series while answering questions during a Q&A on Reddit. One person asked: ‘Why the spitting food challenges. I beg youse to stop, such a waste of food! I really think doing challenges with incentives or couple building activities would be so much better.’ Mike replied: ‘We are moving away from the food challenges as previously seen so hopefully that sorts that one.’ So that means there’s a good chance we won’t have to watch the islanders gag, drool and spit into each others mouths, all in the hopes of winning a challenge. We can’t say we’re disappointed! Rex But while on the topic of food, another fan asked: ‘We see the islanders having breakfast together and snacking throughout the day… what do they typically eat at mealtimes? I assume you have a team of chefs on-site for the islanders and production crew. Do you all eat together?’ To which Mike responded: ‘Yes this is a super popular question. So the Islanders tend to make their own breakfast and we cater for them at lunch and dinner. They have a real mix of foods, everything from lovely fresh salads to roast dinners on a Sunday!
