YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel This is officially the cheapest holiday destination to book this summer By You Magazine - July 23, 2018 Still haven’t booked your summer holiday? Already feel like yours was a million years ago? We’re all for snapping up a bargain last-minute holiday (these sites are particularly good) and now the Post Office has revealed the best value European hotspots for holiday-makers. Getty Images Comparing popular resorts across Europe, the Post Office Travel Money report found that you get most bang for your buck at Marmaris on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, in the south-wear Dalaman region. With a long seafront promenade along the beach, a cobble-stoned Old Quarter, and a backdrop of pine forest mountains, it’s a picturesque favourite with many British tourists. The Turkish lira is weak compared to the pound, with prices up to 36% less than this time last year. The Post Office totted up the cost of 13 holiday purchases (bucket and spade, mask and snorkel, blow-up lilo, suncream, bug repellent, ice cream, sun lounger, pedalo, banana boat, bottle of beer, glass of wine, bottle of coke and a meal for four) and found that you could get the lot for just £79.81 in Marmaris. Bargain! Getty Images Must-dos in Marmaris included the castle of Suleyman the Magnificent and a boat trip to the coves and bays of the Datça Peninsula. Popular hotels include the luxury Marti Hemithea Hotel and D Maris Bay. If you don’t fancy Turkey, coming in second place for best value is the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach, with a wide, sandy bay stretching from the swanky Sveti Vlas marina to the ancient ruins of Nessebar. Again, you can expect a good exchange rate with the Bulgarian lev. In countries with the Euro, you’ll be harder pushed to get such good value for money, but Costa del Sol and Corfu come out the cheapest places to holiday in the Eurozone. And the destinations where prices have crept up since 2017? The Portuguese Algarve, Limassol on Cyprus’ south coast, and Porec on the Istrian Peninsula of west Croatia.
