The allegations were later proven to be false. Brian Wood is played by Anthony Boyle who you may recognise from Derry Girls and Ordeal By Innocence or from his stint as Scorpius Malfoy in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child BBC/Expectation TV/Robert Viglasky/Karwai Tang / WireImage / Via Getty Images After serving in the Iraq War, and being awarded the Military Cross for his role in Battle of Danny Boy, Brian's toughest test was still to come – the scrutiny that followed, according to writer Robert Jones. As the BBC describes, "memory, evidence and trauma collide, as Brian finds himself caught on the fine line between war and unlawful killing". The drama will explore the profound effect Brian's trial had not just on him, but also on his family – his father and ex-soldier, Gavin, played by Alex Ferns; his mother Margaret, played by Pauline Turner; and his wife Lucy, played by Leah McNamara. Toby Jones plays tenacious human rights lawyer Phil Shiner You may recognise Toby from his role as Arnim Zola in the MCU or from movies like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Frost Nixon and The Hunger Games He was also the voice of Dobby in the Harry Potter movies BBC/Expectation TV/Robert Viglasky/Jeff Spicer / Via Getty Images Phil Shiner led the case against Brian and his colleagues on behalf of the Iraq Historic Abuse Team. The public inquiry that followed, known as the Al-Sweady Inquiry, found that allegations of murder and torture made against British soldiers by Iraqi detainees were "deliberate lies". Shiner was subsequently struck off as a solicitor for professional misconduct. Written by Bafta-winner Robert Jones and directed by I May Destroy You alumnus Sam Miller Danny Boy will not only examine the legal battle that became one of the UK s biggest and most expensive public enquiries but will also question what we ask of those who fight – and kill – for their country BBC/Expectation TV/Sophie Mutevelian Danny Boy will premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on Wednesday 12th May at 9pm You can watch the trailer for the series below View this video on YouTube youtube.com Share This ArticleFacebook PinterestTwitterMailLink BuzzFeed DailyKeep up with the latest daily buzz with the BuzzFeed Daily newsletter! This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.
