YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life Over 2 million people have enrolled on this online Yale happiness course By You Magazine - May 4, 2020 Many of us are determined to find joy, whatever it takes. But during the coronavirus pandemic, our journeys to happiness have become more complicated than ever, and it’s understandable to feel it’s just not possible right now, given the circumstances. Getty Images It therefore comes as no surprise that an online course from Yale University has seen over 2 million people sign up this year already. ‘The Science of Wellbeing’ started in 2018 by Psychology Professor Dr Laurie Santos, and was originally named ‘Psychology and the Good Life.’ Due to its overwhelming popularity (it became the most popular course in the university’s 317 year history), the course became available online, and was even made into a podcast last year. It has been brought back in 2020 for a new set of online students, beginning today, 4th May. The online course will ask questions about what truly makes us happy, misconceptions about happiness, and whether we can rewire our mindset to become happier. And the best bit about it? It’s completely free online. The ten-week course is conducted over a series of videos, readings, and quizzes to test your knowledge. Getty Images ‘The Science Of Wellbeing’ is perhaps more relevant than ever now, at a time when finding true happiness seems more difficult. But the course really aims to prove that in many ways, we can create our own happiness when we re-wire our mindset. ‘We think it [happiness] comes from our circumstances, the amount of money we get, our material possessions. My college students think perfect grades equals happiness,’ Professor Santos told the BBC. ‘But what the research shows is that’s simply not the case.’ Getty Images The course has a solid five star review rate online, with over 2000 ratings from former students. One wrote: ‘I have taken a dozen courses online. This is the most challenging and fulfilling course I have taken so far. And I believe that the course shall be beneficial to all people in different walks of life.’ You can sign up at Coursera.
