The reality TV series, which sees a group of single twentysomethings ‘couple up’ on a sun-soaked island in the hopes of finding true love, is one of the most watched programmes on our screens – and now there’s another show that’s set to follow in its very successful footsteps. ITV/Rex Features Our Shirley Valentine Summer – named after the 1989 film Shirley Valentine, where housewife Shirley finds a new lease of life on a holiday to Mykonos – has been dubbed ‘Love Island for over 40s’, and when you look at the concept, it’s easy to see why. The series will follow eight female celebrities as they travel to Greece to ‘rediscover themselves and look for love’. A stunning, sunny location and a quest for romance? It certainly sounds familiar… David Clews, Creative Director at Twofour, the production company behind the show, said in a statement: ‘We can’t wait to take our brilliant cast of “Shirleys” over to Greece. ‘Their summer in the sun will be a jam-packed experience – discovering new passions and rediscovering themselves as they get to grips with local life and the local dating scene. ‘This is going to be a wonderfully warm, funny and heartfelt adventure. Hopefully with some romance too.’ Getty Images The cast for Our Shirley Valentine Summer will include weather girl Siân Lloyd, How Clean is Your House‘s Aggie Mackenzie, comedian Ninia Benjamin and TV personality Lizzie Cundy. Melinda Messenger, Chris Tarrant’s ex-wife Ingrid, psychotherapist Annabel Giles and lawyer Nancy Dell’Olio are also said to be travelling to Greece in search of adventure – and perhaps a spot of romance. ‘Whether it’s discovering a new relationship, hobby or career or rediscovering their confidence and ambitions, the show will see the group of famous faces living together with their new friends to share every moment of this unique experience,’ ITV say of the show. No air date for Our Shirley Valentine Summer has been confirmed as of yet, but we do know that there will be four 60 minute episodes to enjoy when it does finally arrive.
