YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Bodyguard The new BBC One drama everyone’ s talking about By You Magazine - June 22, 2018 If you loved Line of Duty then writer Jed Mercurio’s new heart-pumping drama, Bodyguard, needs to be on your radar. Not to be confused with the 1992 Whitney Houston film, the BBC’s Bodyguard is a six-part series starring Keeley Hawes (who worked with Mercurio in Line Of Duty) as fictional Home Secretary Julia Montague. The bodyguard in question is army veteran David Budd, played by Game Of Thrones’ Richard Madden (who has also teamed up with Mercurio before, in the TV adaptation of Lady Chatterley’s Lovers). Now working for the Metropolitan Police’s Royalty and Specialist Protection branch, heroic but hot-headed David is assigned to ensure the safety of the ambitious Home Secretary. The problem? David vehemently disagrees with Julia’s politics, which stand for everything he hates. But he’ll have to learn to put aside his own beliefs and get on with the job… Discussing his new role, Richard Madden said: ‘Jed has created a remarkable story that resonates with the very heart of modern-day London and real characters trying to survive in this world.’ Airing on BBC One later this year, an exact date has yet to be announced – but they have already released a teaser trailer for the show, so hopefully we won’t be waiting too long. If the 20-second snippet is anything to go by, Keeley Hawes makes a very commanding Home Secretary, and the plot will touch on anxieties about the threat of terrorism in the UK (we see her telling Andrew Marr: ‘We are a target’.) The finale of Line Of Duty’s fourth series pulled in 7.5 million viewers (series five and six have already been commissioned) so clearly the BBC are hoping they will have another hit on their hands with Bodyguard.
