YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Interiors Rustic reboot How to give your home a cosy cottagecore revamp By You Magazine - December 6, 2020 It’s the lifestyle trend that’s helped get us through 2020 – and had us drooling over wicker baskets and Agas. Interiors editor Nicole Gray shows how to give our homes a cosy ‘cottagecore’ revamp. Home-made bread fresh out of the oven, roaring log fires… images of cosy country living are having a moment everywhere, from Instagram to Pinterest. And that moment is ‘cottagecore’ – this year’s biggest lifestyle trend. For a country kick, natural materials are key, such as these kitchen cupboards made from recycled oak. For similar, try retrouvius.com. Vintage ceramics, mismatched artwork and a vase of flowers also up the cottage vibe. Image: Lisa Cohen Cottagecore – a sort of hardcore cottage feel, hence the name – is all about rediscovering simple home comforts that make you feel cosy – so, unsurprisingly, it became a big hit during lockdown. Searches for cottagecore on Google are up by 5,950 per cent since March, while on TikTok the look has racked up over four billion views. To keep the look charming but not messy, turn practical items such as woven baskets into displays and showcase utensils and memorabilia on open shelves. For similar baskets, try yonderliving.com. Image: Laura Chancey/Humble Pie The beauty of cottagecore is that it can be easily achieved in an interiors scheme through the use of natural materials such as wood, linen and wool, plus a mix of modern and antique furniture. A muted palette and natural waxed timber furniture create a warm, nurturing effect. Earthy hues add a sense of charm and history to a space and work well when paired with printed cushion covers and wallpaper. For similar checked armchairs, try vinterior.co. Image: Michael Sinclair/House and Garden/The Conde Nast Publications LTD Floral prints are key, too. Think less chintz, however, and more subtle and charming – display that mismatched china and repurpose ottomans as coffee tables piled high with your favourite books. It’s about creating a lived-in feel and embracing all elements of country life – even muddy wellies! Create a cocooning effect with throws, cushions and upholstery in natural fabrics and traditional patterns. Add punchier prints such as florals with accessories, staying away from full-blown chintz to keep the look fresh.
