She is an introverted young woman who, having been abandoned by her parents, is very close with her extended family, especially her cousin Linda and aunt Emily. The Pursuit Of Love is told through Fanny's eyes, as she goes on a journey of finding her voice in 1940s England. Where you know Emily from: She played Dierdre in Hail, Caesar!, Alice in Little Joe, and the title role in the 2017 film Daphne. Emily also appeared as The Widow in AMC series Into the Badlands. 2 Lily James as Linda Radlett Jun Sato / WireImage, Theodora Films Limited & Moonage Pictures Limited/Robert Viglasky / Via Getty Images Who is Linda: Vivacious, imaginative, and romantic, Linda always follows her heart and her gut. She longs to break free of her strict upper-class family and find true happiness – and maybe love – among the denizens of high society London. But her impulsive nature often leads to her making pretty terrible decisions! Where you know Lily from: Lily has appeared in several movies such as Cinderella, Baby Driver, Yesterday, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. She's also no stranger to period dramas, having starred in Downton Abbey, War & Peace, and Rebecca. 3 Dominic West as Uncle Matthew Dave J Hogan, Theodora Films Limited & Moonage Pictures Limited/Robert Viglasky / Via Getty Images Who is Matthew: Matthew is the domineering patriarch of the Radlett family, and Linda's father. He is a country bumpkin at heart, and has very traditional views about a woman's place in the home. Even though she is his favourite, he often finds himself at loggerheads with his daughter Linda. Where you know Dominic from: Although he's probably best known for playing Jimmy McNulty in The Wire, Dominic has also starred in numerous films including Pride, 300, Colette, and John Carter. 4 Dolly Wells as Aunt Sadie Michael Loccisano, BBC Studios/Steve Schofield / Via Getty Images for Tribeca Film Festival Who is Sadie: Aunt Sadie is the affable yet ineffectual matriarch of the Radlett clan. Although she loves her family, she's too inhibited by her aristocrat circumstances to ever say that out loud! As her aunt, Sadie sympathises with Fanny as she's constantly being abandoned by her mother, who is known as "The Bolter". Where you know Dolly from: British comedy fans will recognise Dolly from her many appearances in shows like Campus, Some Girls, The IT Crowd, and The Mighty Boosh. She also recently starred in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and put in an outstanding performance in the Dracula BBC miniseries as Sister Agatha Van Helsing/Dr Zoe Van Helsing. 5 Andrew Scott as Lord Merlin David M. Benett, Theodora Films Limited & Moonage Pictures Limited/Robert Viglasky / Via Getty Images for Netflix Who is Merlin: Flamboyant and totally unabashed, Merlin is a bright young thing who lives near the Radlett family in the country. He loves art and culture, and is very free with his attitude towards love, life, and sex. Merlin becomes friendly with Fanny and especially Linda, who he takes under his wing. Where you know Andrew from: Two words – sexy priest. Andrew has had roles in a ton of famous shows and movies, but he's best known for his portrayal of The Priest in Fleabag and Jim Moriarty in Sherlock. He also had a main role in the Channel 4 series Cucumber, the BBC series Parade's End, and he played the title role in BBC serial The Mystery of Edwin Drood. 7 Annabel Mullion as Aunt Emily Foxy Films/Guerilla Films, BBC Studios/Steve Schofield / Via Getty Images, Facebook: Mothersmilkmovie Who is Emily: Emily is the sister of Sadie and Fanny's mother. Benett, Theodora Films Limited & Moonage Pictures Limited/Robert Viglasky / Via Getty Images Who is Davey: Davey is Emily's husband and a distinguished writer and critic. Although he is kindhearted, Davey is often prone to unusual flights of fancy when it comes to his health and lifestyle. As a sort-of stepfather figure to Fanny, the pair are pretty close. Where you know John from: As well as being an accomplished theatre actor like many others in the cast, John has appeared on screen in a plethora of TV shows including Luther, Dickensian, and The Crown. He is also known for his performance as Major Harold Webb in the movie Eye in the Sky. 9 Shazad Latif as Alfred Wincham Albert L. Ortega, Theodora Films Limited & Moonage Pictures Limited/Robert Viglasky / Via Getty Images Who is Alfred: If he's anything like his character in the source material – The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford – Alfred is an Oxford man who becomes a suitor for Fanny. Where you know Shazad from: Shazad is known for starring in the BBC TV series Spooks as Tariq Masood, in Toast of London as Clem Fandango, in My Mad Fat Diary as Dr. Nick Kassar, and in Penny Dreadful as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Benett, BBC Studios/Zoe McConnell / Via Getty Images Who is The Bolter: Although she's never identified by name, The Bolter's reputation is known throughout her family and friends. Where you know Emily from: You'll know Emily from her roles in movies such as Shutter Island, Mary Poppins Returns, Howl's Moving Castle, Notting Hill, and Match Point.
