ENNY kicked off June with a summer anthem. An upbeat R&B track that will make you miss dancing in the sun with your crew at a summer gathering. 2 Pa Salieu ft slowthai – Glidin View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com UK artists have not slacked dropping the summer bangers. Coventry native Pa Salieu teams up with the prolific ‘bad boy’ slowthai to produce a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Please open the doors, I need to be in the club. 3 Tinashe & Buddy – Pasadena View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Will 2021 be the year the industry finally gives Tinashe the respect she deserves? “Pasadena” is proof that Tinashe is that girl, and always will be. Funky and flirty, this song has earned its spot at the top of the park link-up playlist. 4 TOKiMONSTA ft VanJess – Say Yes View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Covering Floetry’s “Say Yes” is not easy, you have to be a special kind of artist to sustain the sultry tones of Marsha and Nathalie. But it’s no surprise that VanJess not only managed to cover the song but make it their own with the help of the amazing TOKiMONSTA. 5 Peggy Gou ft Ohhyuk – Nabi View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com If there’s one place where Peggy Gou’s music is meant to be fully enjoyed it’s in the club. It’s a cruel and unusual punishment that I can only enjoy this in the safety of my living room. When I initially played this song, it reminded me of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”, which immediately sets the tone for a bloody good song. 6 Migos ft Justin Bieber – What You See View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Migos dropped their fourth studio album Culture III and it is by far my favourite album from the group. The features are fire, with the help of people like Drake, Cardi B, and Polo G. As a retired Belieber I’m going to highlight the feature that speaks to my heart. Justin Bieber only has a very short chorus feature but the beat speaks for itself, having Migos on a slowed beat is very different to their norm but it’s a pace I can get on board with. 7 Nao – Messy Love View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Nao has one of the most unique voices on this planet, we're honestly blessed to be sharing oxygen with her. We don’t usually get to hear Nao on a slowed down beat, it’s a very welcome change of pace. This song is empowering, it’s moving and, really showcasing just how beautiful Nao's voice is. 8 French Montana – FWMGAB View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com French Montana is one of those artists that pops on my radar every few years with a song so outrageous that it hits hard. The trumpets from Jerry Rivera’s ‘Amores Como El Nuestro’ or as most people will probably know Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie” will forever be iconic, so there's no surprise this track goes dummy. 9 Tyler The Creator – LUMBERJACK View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Tyler, The Creator is one of many artists that dropped an album this June, but they couldn’t all steal the top spot like he did. On his sixth studio album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST is classic Tyler, and he keeps getting better. It’s very hard to pick a favourite from, “WUSYANAME”, “HOT WIND BLOWS”, and “SAFARI” the hits are endless, but I’ll go with “LUMBERJACK” because it was released first. I was initially unsure on the track but then when I saw his BET performance of the single I was an instant believer, and you'll see why. 10 Majid Jordan – Been Through That View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman will forever be the golden boys. They can do no wrong in my eyes for the rest of their lives. Hits after hits, it’s the consistency for me. The fans (and myself) are patiently waiting for the album announcement because the streets need it. 11 H E R ft Ty Dolla $ign – Back Of My Mind View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Despite being around and present in the scene since 2017, H.E.R has finally dropped her debut album Back of My Mind but hey better late than never right? A collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign comes as no surprise – if anything it would’ve been shocking if he wasn’t on the album. Who makes a R&B album without a feature from Ty Dolla $ign these days? Exactly, nobody. 12 Rejjie Snow ft Tinashe and grouptherapy – Disco Pantz View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Now this is a funky bop. Dublin born Rejjie Snow gives us an ultimate groove and more. I’m pleased with the collaboration with grouptherapy, I’m really enjoying their come up in the scene, definitely a group to have your eyes on. 13 WILLOW – Lipstick View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com The Smith kids are my favourite famous siblings going, and yes I’m including Trey Smith because I enjoy his laidback approach as well. The way WILLOW constantly reinvents herself but kills it with perfection every time is something special. “t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l” was already top tier work but “Lipstick” is really giving us a taste of what is to come, and it’s mature, calculated, and will be her best era yet. 14 Jazmine Sullivan – Tragic View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com We love a surprise drop. After releasing the BET Album of the year at the start of 2021, no one was expecting anything else from Jazmine Sullivan this year, but it looks like she has more in the bank and I’m not mad at that. Produced by a personal fave Leven Kali, it’s the post-breakup anthem we need. 15 Jordan Rakei – Family View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Jordan Rakei is one of those artists everyone immediately falls in love with on first the listen. Faultless. “Family” is a preview of his upcoming album What We Call Life. The song is very vulnerable, giving us a raw insight into what we assume is Jordan’s life. I anticipate an emotionally charged album in September. 16 Wafia ft Ta-ku & Masego – Wide Open View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Can we have a moment of silence for when Masego comes in on this track because wow. Australian singer-songwriter Wafia sets up the track beautifully, the song is so relaxing and warming – it’s like a cuddly hug from your gran. 17 Justine Skye & Timbaland – Hey Sucka View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com Every time I see the purple unicorn doing her thing I smile – if you know, you know. Ever since Justine started doing those little Instagram collaborations with Timbaland I’ve been on the edge of my seat waiting for this project, and she didn’t disappoint. “Hey Sucka” is great but please listen to Space and Time as a whole, Justine is coming for necks with this one. 18 SAULT – 9 View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com I consider SAULT as anonymous – maybe even the Banksy of the music industry. They just drop and leave, don’t hear, don’t see anything but it’s incredible every time. It’s really just about the music. They’re back with another politically-charged album, NINE, which is apparently only available online for 99 days, so get listening now because who knows what’s to come next from the group. 19 Doja Cat – Woman View this track on Spotify embed.spotify.com It’s Doja’s world and we’re just living in it. Doja Cat released her third studio album Planet Her and it’s exactly what we expected it to be – sensational. “Woman” took me by surprise as the opener to the album, I had to double-check to make sure I was listening to the right artist, I didn’t know Doja had it in her. If Tiwa Savage or Tems could jump on a remix of this song, that would make my year, just putting that out into the universe .
