YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life Why this weekend is the best time to buy your Christmas presents By You Magazine - December 19, 2019 It’s always good to be prepared, and Christmas in particular is an especially important time to get ahead to avoid panic, hustle and bustle. In fact, those among us who have bought and wrapped all our presents already may be feeling pretty smug right about now. However this year, the late-comers and last minuters may be the ones having the last laugh after all. Because in actual fact, this weekend before Christmas has been lauded the best time to buy your Christmas presents in order to snap up a last-minute bargain. Getty Images According to research by PwC, this Saturday (21 December 2019), is the ideal time to find bargains among the heavily discounted deals most brands and retailers are offering. Dubbed ‘Super Saturday,’ PwC predict that as there have been fewer shopping weekends between Black Friday and Christmas day this year, more retailers will feel pressure to offer discounts to clear out stock prior to the holiday season. With less spending this year overall for Christmas, many people are having to be tempted even more to buy presents and extras, meaning discounts are necessary. “We expect to see significantly higher promotional levels this weekend and a bumper Boxing Day sale compared to previous years, with deep discounts for patient consumers,” explained Lisa Hooker, PwC’s consumer markets leader. Getty Images This is great news for those of us who’ve yet to finish our Christmas shopping list, but also has the potential to encourage more spending than is necessary, leading to hyper-consumerism, and an increase in waste. Whatever your Christmas shopping habits, there are ways to make this year slightly more sustainable, especially when it comes to your wrapping choices. Whether it’s sticking to brown paper that’s recyclable, or investing in re-usable material packaging, there are plenty of ways to avoid unnecessary waste at the end of 2019.
