YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Killing Eve has been crowned the most watched BBC show of 2019 By You Magazine - December 18, 2019 This year, we have been inundated with impressive TV shows that have kept us all at the edge of our seats wanting more. But one show in particular has outshone them all in the eyes of the British public and we can’t say we’re surprised. It is of course, Killing Eve. Photo by LMKMEDIA The hit BBC America series by Phoebe Waller-Bridge has come out on top on the annual iPlayer list as the biggest and most watched programme. The crime drama, which stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer as its leads Eve Polastri and Villanelle, has not only received critical acclaim but endless award nominations – many of which it took home wins for throughout 2019. The show’s second season alone, which dropped earlier this year, has received 40.4 million requests to view online so far meaning not only did it top the most watched list but it did so by a mile. Line of Duty season 5 came in at second place on the big list with 27.4 million requests (still almost 14 million less than Killing Eve), while Peaky Blinders season 3 with 26.6 million requests. But that’s not all. Despite having launched in 2018, the first season of Killing Eve also featured in the top five most watched shows on iPlayer with 22.3 million requests which simply goes to show how popular and hype-worthy the drama really is. In 2020 we will go even further to make it the best watch ever from binge-worthy series to the biggest live TV moments.’ Similarly, Dan McGolpin, Controller of iPlayer for the BBC, added: ‘This year we’ve seen some of television’s most exciting shows return to BBC iPlayer, from Killing Eve to Line of Duty and from Peaky Blinders to Fleabag, the number of programme requests we’ve received has been incredible. What’s also really satisfying is that brand new series such as The Capture, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, His Dark Materials and Seven Worlds, One Planet have also generated large audiences. Together with our live event coverage, this year including Glastonbury, the Women’s World Cup and the General Election 2019, BBC iPlayer is a unique service that is going to get even bigger and better in 2020.’ RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR 50 of the best celebrity Halloween costumes of all time Shirley Ballas ‘ Strictly gave me back my hope’ Davina McCall discusses how men can help women going through the menopause Popular in Celebrity TV chef Gino D Acampo on Sardinia Sophia Loren and scary salads May 25, 2017 The Evergreen Goddess Exercise guru Diana Moran on looking fit and July 10, 2017 More more Julianne Moore November 13, 2017 Author Jill Mansell on designer notebooks commissioning art and the family January 16, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES Kelly Hoppen on vodka vintage finds and being a April 4, 2018 ‘ I have no regrets’ Millie Mackintosh on divorce debt and reuniting May 20, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES TV presenter and tennis player Annabel Croft shares her July 1, 2018 Stella Parton ‘ Dolly and I have always been close’ August 12, 2018 Anna Friel on getting jeered in the street shared parenting with September 23, 2018 Queen of primetime Charlotte Riley on juggling rising stardom with pregnancy October 21, 2018 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
