YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty Andie MacDowell says it’ s “ badass” to go grey By You Magazine - November 10, 2021 Andie MacDowell’s latest Netflix drama Maid has become a word-of-mouth hit, and while her character’s behaviour may be less than desirable, we can’t deny her long grey hair looks ravishing. Getty While it shouldn’t be particularly surprising to see at 63-year-old actress with grey hair, in the youth-obsessed world of Hollywood it’s refreshing to see a star who actually looks their age. Now, Andie has spoken out about how proud she is to fly the flag for women her age. “I think it’s badass to embrace where you are [in life] and be fearless,” Andie told InStyle. “That is exactly what I am doing. I am stepping right into where I am with no shame, and it feels good.” READ MORE: SJP CALLS OUT “MISOGYNIST” COMMENTS ON AGEING Andie’s new look gained attention when she proudly showed off her grey hair on the red carpet of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival in July. Up until then, she had been colouring her famous curls, but finally decided to go au naturel. Getty However, the star doesn’t want people to say she’s embracing her natural hair color. “I hate the word ’embrace,’ because it always sounds like you’re having to accept something, and I don’t feel like that,” Andie told Interview Magazine. “We’re beautiful at every age and glorious in our own way, and we have so much to offer. I feel so much more comfortable. It’s like I’ve taken a mask off or something.” “I feel better like this. Honestly, it’s exhausting to have to be something that you no longer are,” she added. “I was finally like, ‘You know what? I’m not young. And I’m OK with that.’” While Andie may have decided to stop colouring her hair, she still has some excellent product tips up her sleeve, regularly using purple conditioner to remove brassy tones from her hair. “Silver hair can get kind of yellow. It makes all the difference in the world” she said.
