And with over 700 five-star reviews, it’s a ‘baked’ foundation from a less well-known brand that’s come out on top. Laura Geller’s Balance-n-Brighten Foundation has become something of a cult hit. The brand has had huge success online, becoming Europe’s number one beauty retailer. A former make-up artist who worked backstage on Broadway, Laura Geller launched the brand on QVC over 20 years ago. The foundation – which retails at £23 on QVC UK – is a baked powder foundation, which means it is formulated without additional filler or binder ingredients, so you get a more flawless coverage with less product. The marbled appearance is thanks to the colour-correcting swirls of multicoloured liquid pigments. Infused with two antioxidants (white tea extract and the medicinal herb centella asiatica) it has an almost creamy, radiant finish. It comes in nine inclusive shades from Porcelain to Toffee. For fans of a powder foundation that are hunting for the Holy Grail – something that gives decent coverage while maintaining a luminous glow – it seems this really does the trick. One reviewer writes: ‘This is the only powder foundation that is light weight and provides amazing coverage.’ Another adds: ‘This one is the absolute BEST since it starts out as a liquid and then baked to perfection. Doesn’t look dry or cakey. Smooths over fine lines and large pores. I’m now a Geller Gal.’ Laura Geller also makes a baked powder blusher, Blush-n-Brighten, that uses a similar formula. Like the foundation, rather than one flat shade the blushers contain a range of complimenting tones and accents.
