YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Joanna Lumley stays in touch with her husband while travelling in the sweetest way By You Magazine - February 24, 2020 We’re used to national treasure Joanna Lumley making us roll on the floor laughing, but this time she’s making our hearts melt instead. The actress and comedian recently divulged how much she misses her husband when she’s away travelling for work – something she does a lot of. Getty Images Speaking to Woman’s Weekly magazine, the Absolutely Fabulous star said: ‘It is hard leaving my husband, my home, garden and cats, and it feels like a terribly long time, but I try not to miss things.’ While she can sometimes spend weeks without talking to her composer husband Stephen Barlow, rather than picking up the phone, texting or Facetiming, as would be many of our go-to ways to stay in touch with our loved ones, Joanna takes a slightly more traditional but extremely sweet way of communicating messages back home. ‘I tend to keep in touch with postcards because I’m old-fashioned. But the ones I sent in Cuba were never seen again.’ She’s referring to her trip to record her upcoming two-part documentary, Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean, which is set to explore the wonders of Cuba and Haiti. Shutterstock While the couple have been married since 1986 and live in London together, Joanna’s jet-setting career means long spells away from each other, so we love that the 73 year old actress has taken the opportunity to keep the romance alive in her marriage. And she’s certainly no stranger to romance – back in 2018, Joanna admitted in an interview with the Mirror that her and her husband were ‘quite romantic. We write notes to each other every day. Some of them are about simple things, like: “Don’t forget to take something out of the freezer for dinner!”, but some are more meaningful.’ Shutterstock We love that Joanna is keeping the age-old and rather romantic traditions of sending postcards and note-writing alive – we’re getting ourselves down to Paperchase, stat.
