A UK city break can be just as exciting as a jaunt aboard, and it turns out you don’t have to break the bank to take one, either. Getty Images New research from insurance4carhire has taken a lot of guesswork out of the decision for you, analysing the affordability of 20 major UK cities to decipher the cheapest option for your next trip. The survey took into account factors including the average cost of a hotel, food and drink, pint of beer and the number of free attractions in the vicinity to find the most purse-friendly option in the country. And the winner is (drumroll please…) – Sheffield! Yes, the South Yorkshire city came out on top for budget-conscious travellers, performing well across all of the categories that were taken into consideration. Coventry From a stroll around the Millennium Art Gallery (entrance to which is free, we might add) to exploring the local Botanical Gardens or nearby Peak District, there’s plenty to see and do in Sheffield, whether you’re visiting as a couple, with the whole family or on a solo break by yourself. Accommodation is affordable and the food and drink scene won’t disappoint either, with everything from wood-fired pizza to street food like tacos on the menu in the city centre, and a number of fine dining options in the vicinity too.
