YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Fashion This is why the Queen never wears a pair of her own shoes first By You Magazine - October 28, 2019 From colourful coats to hats for all seasons, Queen Elizabeth II has a royal wardrobe to be proud of. But now a new revelation from an insider has drawn our attention to one area we never really focused on when it comes to her Majesty’s outfits: her shoes. The Queen usually opts for the same style of shoe – plain black loafers with a small black heel, which she wears with any hue, and for any occasion, usually to match a coordinating black handbag. Getty Images So far, so unremarkable – but now royal dresser Angela Kelly has revealed that the Queen seldom ever wears a pair of her own shoes fresh out of the box. In her new book, The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, The Dresser and The Wardrobe, Kelly details how the monarch delegated the task of breaking in a new set to her, ensuring that they’re instantly comfortable when Elizabeth slips them on to attend an engagement. ‘It makes the most sense this way. As has been reported in the press, a flunky wears in Her Majesty’s shoes to ensure that they are comfortable and that she is always good to go,’ she writes. ‘And, yes, I am that flunky.’ According to HELLO! magazine, the Queen favours footwear from Anello & Davide of Kensington, west London, who have handmade her shoes for more than 50 years. Getty Images Kelly’s story is corroborated by Stewart Parvin, who designed Elizabeth’s wardrobe for 11 years and told the Evening Standard previously that the then-unnamed designated staff member must wear beige cotton ankle socks, and only walk on carpet during the process. ‘The shoes have to be immediately comfortable … she does get someone to wear them. The Queen can never say “I’m uncomfortable, I can’t walk any more,”‘ he explained. ‘She has the right to have someone wear them in.’ RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR Rochelle Humes has launched a gorgeous new edit with Next Shop the YOU Magazine Instagram YOU picks the best new-in buys from M& S Popular in Fashion Laura Jackson has teamed up with Next for the chicest knitwear January 22, 2020 Holly Willoughby’ s birthday dress is another Zara bargain February 10, 2020 The Instagram-famous & Other Stories wool blazer is back in stock August 31, 2022 Lorraine just wore Emma Willis’ Next collection from head to toe March 17, 2020 The prettiest spring dresses under £100 March 1, 2022 Everyone is buying Holly’ s gorgeous gingham Oasis dress May 14, 2020 13 bargain dresses to buy in ASOS’ s extra 20 per cent June 10, 2020 This £20 H& M dress is set to be the social media June 26, 2020 Stacey Solomon x Primark is back for a third collection with July 20, 2020 Searches for this perfect heatwave summer top style are up 5000% August 10, 2020 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
