How could you forget – they were one of the highlights of British summer last year. The frozen treats were so popular that they sold out immediately. But if you missed out last time, fear not because they’re back! Following very high demand, the purse-friendly supermarket chain has brought back the famous lollies, selling a pack of four for just £2.99. Just like before, you can choose from four classic tipples; Gin & Tonic, Prosecco & Peach Bellini, Champagne & Orange Bucks Fizz or Cosmopolitan (vodka and triple sec) – though rotating between the four flavours sounds like a much better idea. Before you do, however, note that each one of the boozy ice lollies contain 4.5% ABV meaning their alcohol content is equivalent to that of a lager. The Cosmopolitan flavour is slightly higher with 4.7% ABV. As a result of their popularity, police issued a drink-driving warning over alcoholic lollies last year. In a statement, Acting Inspector Harry Simpson from the Cleveland and Durham Operations Unit said: ‘[Alcoholic ice lollies] are becoming really popular and it’s easy to forget that they contain alcohol and aren’t just flavouring.’ He continued: ‘On a hot summer’s day, it is easy to lose count of how many you have and then get behind the wheel of a car.’ Due to their alcohol content, customers should also be prepared to provide ID when picking up their popsicle. ‘The alcohol content of these products is clearly labelled on the product packaging to help our customers to make informed choices about the alcohol products they buy,’ a spokesperson for Aldi told Good Housekeeping. So, what are you waiting for? Head to your local Aldi store (or visit Aldi online) to stock up on your favourite flavours before they’re all snapped up – we’ll see you at the checkout.
