But what if we told you that there’s new, very unusual, garnish of choice that we’ll all be opting for this year? According to the experts at gin brand Bombay Sapphire, coffee and orange are the perfect additions to your G&T. That’s right, a hit of caffeine is what has been missing from your favourite tipple. Getty Images Speaking to Good Housekeeping, Raj Nagra, Global Brand Ambassador of Bombay Sapphire, explained the bizarre but supposedly genius mix, saying: ‘The addition of cold brew coffee to a classic Bombay gin and tonic is a surprising combination, but the two go really well together!’ Believe it or not, Raj states that pairing cold brew coffee with Fever Tree tonic water and gin before adding a slice of orange brings out great flavours that compliment each other. So if you love your coffee just as much as you love your gin and tonic, this could be the ultimate drink for you. However, if you prefer something a little more fresh, Raj’s colleague Sam Carter, Senior Global Ambassador at Bombay Sapphire, suggests mixing things up by adding melon to your G&T. Getty Images ‘I love melon because it’s so fresh and melons have got such a vibrant colour to them. They’re fun and unusual,’ he told Good Housekeeping. ‘I like to put something in a G&T people wouldn’t expect; I like to break with convention. You can get quite a bitter, earthy, dry flavour to gin, so naturally the sweetness of the melon can just balance it out.’ And that’s not all. He also recommended adding a dash of good-quality olive oil – yes, really. ‘It’s not always about taste, it’s about aroma too, as well as texture and the mouthfeel of gin,’ he explained. ‘Gin tends to give a creamy, buttery, smooth texture, and olive oil can add real texture to a G&T, especially highlighting the grassy notes of juniper.’ Well, this calls for a G&T tasting party if you ask us!
