YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Hit American dating show The Bachelor is coming back to the UK By You Magazine - February 14, 2019 We’ve got some pretty amazing news for anyone who loves a good dating show – and no, it does not involve Love Island. Instead, the American phenomenon that is The Bachelor is finally getting its very own UK version. For those who aren’t familiar, The Bachelor is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) reality TV show in the US – it is pretty much what Love Island is to us over here, only they have 23 seasons, and that’s without counting its spin-off shows The Bachelorette and Bachelor In Paradise. Channel 5 While the show does air in the UK on ITVBe, it hasn’t quite become a hit with British audiences – much of which has to do with the fact that one, they only air very old seasons and two, well, it’s very American. However, it looks the creators have decided to give a UK version of the show another go following their first attempt in 2011 starring Charlotte Church’s rugby player ex-boyfriend Gavin Henson. Remember? It was on Channel 5 and was even followed up with a second season starring Spencer Matthews – yes, really. Well, this time the producers have ditched the celebrity element and gone back to the show’s original roots by picking an ordinary British bachelor who will have his pick of 25 women competing to win his heart and ultimately receive a proposal in the season finale (which is usually a dramatic ‘three-hour event’). So who is the lucky man? Meet Alex Marks. Channel 5 Alex is 31, and is from London. He was raised in Kent and is the youngest of three brothers. And according to the team behind the show, even though he was sports captain and deputy head boy, school life wasn’t always easy for him. Alex owns a personal training studio in South London which also specialises in fitness for pregnant and post-natal mothers. He is close with his family and idolises his parent’s relationship. However, he admits that he has poured all of his time and money into setting up his business and now that it’s a success, he is now looking for the love of his life with the hope of starting his own family. At 6ft 6’ Alex admits he often attracts female attention, especially when out with his group of close male friends. He has an intelligent streak and adventurous passion and is looking for his perfect match. We know, he sounds perfect! And if he wasn’t enough, Mark Wright will be presenting the 10-part series as the UK’s equivalent of Chris Harrison (The Bachelor US’s long time host). Filming will kick off in Autumn taking place in South Africa, Antigua and the UK, so chances are we won’t be expecting the show until late this year or even early 2020. Either way, we’ll certainly be tuning in.
