YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity TV presenter Jimmy Doherty talks pink tractors pork crackling and the Prince of Wales By You Magazine - January 31, 2018 Where is home? A farm with a few cows in Suffolk. Career plan B? A zookeeper. I studied zoology at university and now I’ve got a zoo licence. We’re opening an aviary and reptile centre at the farm this year. Who would play you in a movie of your life? A cross between Lee Evans and Terry Nutkins from The Really Wild Show. Guilty pleasure? Haribo Tangfastics. I like the blackcurrant crocodiles. Biggest bugbear? People who throw litter out of their cars. As a child you wanted to be… A Royal Marine. Earliest memory? Lying on the floor with my brother in my parents’ house in London. Secret to a happy relationship? Making sure you take time to enjoy each other’s company, especially when you have children. Your best quality? My imagination. And your worst? I don’t always listen. Most romantic thing you’ve ever done? I bought my wife Michaela a pink tractor. Last meal on earth? A Sri Lankan crab curry with a side of pork crackling – you can’t beat crackling. Dream dinner-party guests? I’m a great fan of comedians, so Billy Connolly and Lee Evans. And Charles Darwin would be interesting. Advice to teenage self? Don’t worry so much about the future. Cat or dog? Dog. We have an Irish terrier called Whiskey. What do you see when you look in the mirror? Someone in need of a good haircut. On a day off we’d find you… At home reading Acres USA [an ecological farming magazine] with a cup of tea. Starstruck moment? Interviewing Sir David Attenborough in the Natural History Museum. I did the whole lip-quivering thing, but he’s a pro and was good at relaxing me. Big break? Being asked by the BBC to appear in a pilot for Jimmy’s Farm. Career highlight? Abseiling down a cliff in Nepal to collect wild honey. Most embarrassing moment? Getting excited and announcing to my team that the Prince of Wales had ordered two boxes of sausages. Unfortunately it was the Prince of Wales pub. Favourite tipple? Whisky. It’s a lovely way to end an evening and a great way to start a friendship. Hangover cure? Plenty of water. What did you have for breakfast today? Eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes. Top of your bucket list? To go face to face with great white sharks. Secret skill? I’m nifty at sewing. One thing that would make your life better? A teleportation machine. Philosophy? Make the most of the time you’ve got. Last programme that made you cry? The big reveal in DIY SOS. Where would you time travel to? I would like to see some dinosaurs. First record you bought? Legend by Bob Marley and The Wailers. Most extravagant purchase? A Manitou Telehandler for lifting things around the farm. Your biggest regret? That I didn’t start the farm sooner. Biggest fear? Being eaten by a shark. Celebrity crush? Keeley Hawes in The Durrells. Happiness is… Having time to enjoy yourself.
