Gemma Day Gemma Day I love this wedding photo: my husband Rob and I are laughing because Moira, our best woman, made a very funny speech. She told Rob to put his hand over mine, then said, ‘that’s the last time you’ll ever have the upper hand.’ Gemma Day From the ages of three to six, I lived in New Canaan, Connecticut. I had an American accent and used to do imitations of Americans that made everyone laugh. I have kept this number plate from our car ever since. It lives in my kitchen. Gemma Day I wore these kitten heels to audition for Stephen Fry’s [2003] film Bright Young Things. Stephen didn’t say a word to me, so I was sure I hadn’t got the part, but then he looked down at my feet and said, ‘I love your shoes,’ and I got it. Gemma Day After my children, photo albums are the first thing I’d rescue from a fire. I have many priceless photos of our sons [Kit, 11, and twins Gabriel and Tristan, 10]. They bring so much joy and remind me of how quickly time passes. Gemma Day I bought this tatty t-shirt in Camden Market when I was about 25 and didn’t have much money. I dyed it at home in a bucket and wore it at my audition for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. I got in, so I’ve kept it – it’s far too short to wear again. Gemma Day When I was cast as an artist in a Mike Leigh film, I took some painting lessons to get into character, which sparked a major passion. This painting of my son Gabriel, aged four, is one of the first I did. I’m very proud of it as it totally captures him. Gemma Day I will forever cherish these first pairs of booties my sons wore. They are so sweet. I loved having babies so it couldn’t be more appropriate that I’ve ended up on Call The Midwife which is all about children and childbirth. Gemma Day I once pretended to be Irish to get a role, then thought I should probably spend some time there, so I toured around the Dingle Peninsula with my mum, who is Irish. We found this mug, now chipped, that has the Irish version of my name: Fionnguala. Interview by Charlotte Pearson-Methven The DVD of Call The Midwife series eight, including the Christmas special, will be out tomorrow, price £20.42 RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR 50 of the best celebrity Halloween costumes of all time Shirley Ballas ‘ Strictly gave me back my hope’ Davina McCall discusses how men can help women going through the menopause Popular in Celebrity TV chef Gino D Acampo on Sardinia Sophia Loren and scary salads May 25, 2017 The Evergreen Goddess Exercise guru Diana Moran on looking fit and July 10, 2017 More more Julianne Moore November 13, 2017 Author Jill Mansell on designer notebooks commissioning art and the family January 16, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES Kelly Hoppen on vodka vintage finds and being a April 4, 2018 ‘ I have no regrets’ Millie Mackintosh on divorce debt and reuniting May 20, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES TV presenter and tennis player Annabel Croft shares her July 1, 2018 Stella Parton ‘ Dolly and I have always been close’ August 12, 2018 Anna Friel on getting jeered in the street shared parenting with September 23, 2018 Queen of primetime Charlotte Riley on juggling rising stardom with pregnancy October 21, 2018 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
