YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel The Londoner A super-boutique hotel that s been curated to reflect the drama and elegance of West End life… By You Magazine - December 16, 2021 YOU’s interiors coordinator Charlotte Page, (@stylingyourhome) finds out more about the space, tastes and experiences The Londoner hotel has on offer. Where London’s Leicester Square is a bustling tourist hot-spot. Home to M&M world, the Lego store and some of the capital’s best theatre shows. It now boasts a new head-turning hotel, ‘The Londoner’, which marks itself as the world’s first super-boutique hotel. And that it is. Every-corner of this hotel has been well thought out and finished, from the façade dressed in vivid blue tiles to the decadent and luxurious interiors that continue throughout. What Once you are welcomed through the tallest of doors by the cheerful doormen you arrive to check in and are seated on a plump velvet seat next to a warm, flickering fire. It’s intimate, eclectic and the boutique feel continues across its 16 storeys, featuring 350 guest rooms and 35 suites, event spaces, a wellness floor with a vast swimming pool and six restaurants and lounges. The drawing room, Y bar and whiskey room are exclusive to guests – oh and did we mention, The Londoner has its very own cinema… The Londoner whole-heartily captures the character of London itself, with winks and nods at every turn to British humour, masterfully combined with the warmth of home comforts – design team Yabu Pushelberg certainly understood the assignment. The journey up to the room was an experience in itself, with the hotel home to an expertly curated roster of art pieces. I won’t ruin it for you – but look out for a few artistic peepholes in the lift. Floor-to-ceiling windows welcome you into your cosy room, the bathroom tiles mirror the industrial metalwork on the outside of the building, with brushed black-chrome finishes. Oh and I can’t forget to mention the hi-tech Japanese toilet with a heated seat! I’ll leave that there. Attention to detail drifts through the room with the fluffiest slippers, a Robert’s radio, binoculars to take in the city views and a handcrafted Vispring mattress with 400 thread count Irish linen, dreamy. Working from home can have its perks, and in this instance I spent the afternoon working from the drawing room – for overnight guests only. Designed with a contemporary spin of the classic British living room it felt warm, cosy and very chic. Muralists, En Viu have fashioned the artwork that can only be described as a masterpiece. Installed across 30 panels with a narrative to reflect the lives of two British trailblazers, James Cook and Sir Joshua Reynolds, you certainly feel hidden from the hotel buzz elsewhere and part of your own members club, especially with a cart that holds cheese and nibbles for your taking. Food Dining in the Londoner’s largest restaurant, Whitcomb’s was exquisite and precise. A menu that welcomes you to a corner of the French Mediterranean with simple yet elegant cuisine prepared using carefully selected quality ingredients, it also captures a sense of tradition and modernity which connects well to the Londoner’s aesthetic. To start we chose the seared king prawns with garlic, chilli and olive oil, paired with the burrata miel and Seville orange, coriander seeds and Manuka honey – the two dishes were flavoursome, fresh and paired perfectly with a glass of Champagne, or two… For mains we chose the boeuf au poivre, (grilled rib-eye steak) partnered with our waiter’s recommendation of layered potato chips with rosemary and sea-salt-thin, with a crisp crunch and the king of accompaniments. We finished with beignets, (the softest, fried-donuts) served with a selection of signature sauces, a mouth-wateringly, tasty dish. The morning after the night before breakfast is served in your room or seated in the Whitcomb where you will find creamy burford brown scrambled eggs, and all the trimmings – whilst you also have the largest selection of savoury cereals, croissants and baguettes.
