YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity The songs chosen by the royals for their first wedding dance By You Magazine - January 11, 2022 Oh, how we love a royal wedding. From the iconic bridal gowns to the what perfumes each bride wore, we relish finding out what special details the royals included on their big day. Of course, there’s plenty we get to see for ourselves, either on television or through photos. But there are some things that are a bit more behind the scenes, like the reception party. Have you ever wondered who made a speech? What was the dance playlist like? Who was the first to get up and dance? We have to wait for someone to spill the beans on those details, but what we do know is the song each royal couple chose for their first wedding dance… Prince William and Kate Middleton Getty Images It’s hard to imagine what the future king might have selected for his first dance with his wife, Kate, but it turns out the couple enjoyed a live performance by pop star Ellie Goulding. To celebrate Prince William’s marriage to Kate in 2011, Ellie Goulding sang her rendition of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’. Ellie’s version had been used in the John Lewis Christmas advert the previous year – the Cambridge’s clearly took a fancy to it! Their selection might have also been because Elton John was a close friend of William’s late mum, Diana. Surely no one can resist dancing to that. According to Harper’s Bazaar UK, the couple ‘were joyful on the big day, with their first dance to “I’m in Love” by “60s soul singer Wilson Pickett”.’ Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall Getty Images The Queen’s oldest granddaughter, Zara, hasn’t been afraid to break the odd tradition here and there. However, when it came to her first wedding dance with Mike, the royal chose a classic: Frank Sinatra’s ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin‘. Prince Charles and Princess Diana Getty Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding became one of the biggest TV moments in history, raking in over 750 million viewers worldwide back in 1981. We don’t know exactly what song Charles and Diana’s first dance was to, but we do know that American jazz musician Lester Lanin and his orchestra performed at the wedding ceremony. The New York Times reported that he wrote ‘My Lady Love’ based on the couple’s marriage. Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank Getty Images Princess Eugenie and Jack chose a combination of classical tunes and pop hits for their wedding reception in October 2018 – a slight gear change from opera singer Andrea Bocelli’s performance at their St. George’s Chapel ceremony. Robbie Williams was said to perform some of his best hits, including ‘Angels’ at the reception – perhaps Eugenie and Jack’s first dance was to one of his songs… RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR 50 of the best celebrity Halloween costumes of all time Shirley Ballas ‘ Strictly gave me back my hope’ Davina McCall discusses how men can help women going through the menopause Popular in Celebrity TV chef Gino D Acampo on Sardinia Sophia Loren and scary salads May 25, 2017 The Evergreen Goddess Exercise guru Diana Moran on looking fit and July 10, 2017 More more Julianne Moore November 13, 2017 Author Jill Mansell on designer notebooks commissioning art and the family January 16, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES Kelly Hoppen on vodka vintage finds and being a April 4, 2018 ‘ I have no regrets’ Millie Mackintosh on divorce debt and reuniting May 20, 2018 EMOTIONAL TIES TV presenter and tennis player Annabel Croft shares her July 1, 2018 Stella Parton ‘ Dolly and I have always been close’ August 12, 2018 Anna Friel on getting jeered in the street shared parenting with September 23, 2018 Queen of primetime Charlotte Riley on juggling rising stardom with pregnancy October 21, 2018 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
