Interesting local shops within striding distance, a river (The Thames) to walk alongside, a chic bar to down cocktails in, capacious beds to loll on. It’s near to London and yet far enough away to feel like the country. It’s mix of old world history and luxurious modern touches. Plus it’s cosy and friendly with a buzzy restaurant. Oh and did we mention – it’s affordable. Relais Henley hotel review Rooms and facilities The rooms have been upgraded and they boast the finest sheets this reviewer has slept in (and that’s saying something). The beds are spacious and the bathrooms are fitted out in marble. The decor is quirky (with striped carpets that nod to the town’s rowing heritage) and many of the rooms have stunning riverside views. If you want a bath make sure to request a room with one on booking as some rooms lack them. Plus it’s in the middle of town so don’t expect silence. Food and drink The Quarterdeck Bar is sumptuous and cosy with an extensive cocktail menu – perfect for romantic hand holding or a girls catch up. The Clipper Restaurant (above) is beautifully decorated with orange banquette seating and a row boat hung high above your head. Run in conjunction with London’s Mosimanns, it has their stamp of sophistication and quality without being overly formal or fancy. A particular shout out to the in house Gourmet Deli, which is a beautiful space stacked with delicious produce. Take your coffee to go. Hotel highlights The hotel’s history is impressive. A sixteenth century coaching inn, Charles the 1st first visited in 1632 and the a lot of the building’s quirks remain. It’s central riverside location is stunning and it means you can walk everywhere. The interiors upgrade means the hotel is cosy and luxurious but never intimidating. What to do nearby Well there is pottering around the town’s shops, a mix of cafes, interiors and fashion. If you want to go out to eat there is the award winning Crocker’s Henley. Or the famed Antony Worrall-Thompson pub The Greyhound in nearby Rotherfield Peppard. If you fancy a spa day try Danesfield House which is just down the road.
