Our tipple of choice? Champagne, of course. However, that doesn’t mean we’re splashing the cash on Dom Pérignon. Instead, we’re making the most of the excellent ranges of fizz offered on the British high street. From Tesco to Marks & Spencer, Aldi to Lidl, the options are endless and impressive – but one supermarket has come out on top for providing the best, affordable bubbly on the market. The bottle, priced at just £21, scored an incredible 78 points out of 100 in the annual taste test, beating off contenders from rival supermarkets such as Waitrose and Harvey Nichols. But what’s so special about it? Well quite frankly, it is delicious. Judges described the Champagne as having ‘a light aroma with a pleasant citrusy flavour’ and ‘plenty of large bubbles’ which is what we all want from our festive fizz. Similarly, the brand itself also describes the tipple as having a ‘citrus and apple crumble aromas, balanced by a toasty richness and elegance.’ Morrisons Morrisons The Best Brut Premier Cru Champagne 75cl, £21 Meanwhile, Clive Donaldson, Morrisons Wine Expert, said: ‘Our Champagne has to be the best bottle available at this price, it’s great to see that Good Housekeeping’s experts agree.’ This isn’t the first time Morrisons has been recognized for its stellar wine selection. Last year, the brand’s own Spumante Prosecco was voted one of the best supermarket sparkling wine under £15 in the same taste test. At the time, the judges described the Morrisons prosecco as ‘a fruity, ripe peach and pear filled aroma with juicy peach and slightly confected pear flavours.
