YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Showtrial The new BBC drama that Line of Duty and Bodyguard fans will love By You Magazine - December 4, 2019 If like us, you love a gritty crime drama like Line of Duty or Criminal, then we’ve got some exciting news for you. The BBC has announced that it has commissioned a brand new series that sounds right up our street. Line of Duty – BBC The six-part drama titled Showtrial has been produced by World Productions, the genius company behind hit shows like Line of Duty, Bodyguard and Save Me, so we’ve already got high expectations. It has also been written by Ben Richards, who is responsible for the scripts of Strike and The Tunnel. World Productions CEO Simon Heath said: ‘It’s great to be working again with Ben Richards, who uses the DNA of our true crime obsession to create a gripping fictional murder trial that shines a light on the failings of our justice system.’ Here’s everything we know about Showtrial so far… What is it about As the name suggest, Showtrial, is about a high profile court trial that unravels within the media and causes social uproar – think the Amanda Knox case or even the Harold Shipman trial and the impact they had on society. The Bodyguard – BBC ‘Every now and then a trial starts which grips the nation, placing victim and accused – as well as their families – at the heart of a media storm,’ read the BBC’s show summary. ‘Showtrial focuses on one such case, when Talitha Campbell, the arrogant daughter of a wealthy entrepreneur, is arrested following the disappearance of fellow student, Hannah Ellis, the hard-working daughter of a single mother.’ It continues: ‘From Talitha’s arrest to the jury’s final verdict, Showtrial switches between both sides of the legal battle, as defence and prosecution fight for their version of what really happened to Hannah, and the truth about Talitha: Falsely accused? Or callous murderer?’ The enticing drama aims to highlight how wealth, politics and prejudice conspire to distort and interfere with the quest for justice. Who has been cast The show has yet to be cast, so there are no names for who will be playing Hannah and Talitha as of yet. When will it air The show has only just been commissioned so there’s a long way to go before we get a release date. But the BBC has stated that ‘casting and further details will be announced in due course.’ We’ll be on the edge of our seats until then.
