Case in point, The Cotswolds and with a host of famed towns nearby, The Feathered Nest Country Inn is perfectly placed to explore them. Set in the pretty village of Nether Westcote, this is a bolthole from the busy day to day that boasts a Michelin starred chef and a menu that will set any foodie’s tastebuds alight. It enjoys a sweeping view of the Evenlode Valley and a fusion of period charm and modernity that lures locals and visitors alike. In fact you may just find that, like me, you’ll want to book your return visit before you leave. The Feathered Nest Country Inn review Rooms and facilities We stayed in the newly refurbished ‘Cottage’ which is conveniently a post-drink stumble away from the Inn itself. Picture your perfect Holiday style abode – picket fence, Cotswold stone and those muted tones of Farrow & Ball green that are so easy on the eye. It’s a traditional meets modern getaway that’s so comfortable we found ourselves lighting the fire and settling in to drink wine and watch movies, our walk put on the back burner until later in the day. I visited with a friend and the good news is the downstairs sofa converts into a very comfortable double bed, so although cosy you can visit with another couple. Food and drink The Inn strives to offer up ‘something for everybody’ from a 6-course tasting menu with wine to their famed 8oz Nest Burger served up with local Hooky ale. Menus are seasonal fêting local produce and Head Chef Matt Weedon can as easily turn his hand to catering for a tricky vegan, like myself, and still delivering up incredible flavour combinations and exciting food. For example, the plant based tasting menu included such delights as white gazpacho with green olive focaccia to avocado with cocoa, blood orange and passion fruit desert. I was both surprised and delighted. Hotel highlights Part of the charm of older Cotswold properties are all the nooks and crannies you can settle into or explore. The pub, with its quirky saddle stools and well-stocked bar has corners and coves to hole up in and eat, drink and listen to live local music, or on the lower level you can sit by the fire with a coffee and a book. If the weather had played ball, we would almost certainly have taken to the terrace to eat and take in the views. What to do nearby The feathered Nest is slap bang in the middle of two of arguably the most picturesque towns in the UK, Burford and Stow-on-the-Wold. Both boast beautiful town centres but also a host of local attractions, from the Cotswold Wildllife Park where you can enjoy a face-to-face with a giraffe (literally), to trawling the plentiful supply of local antique shops. There are walks or eateries and cafes aplenty, so these are the perfect spots for scenic R&R. Do check the local ‘What’s on’ guides before heading off. Best for It’s the perfect long weekend escape and a great excuse for filling your lungs with fresh air and your stomach with great food. You might even find yourself eyeing up properties in local estate agent windows whilst there… Rates start from £195 a night B&B, or £465 a night to stay in The Cottage with breakfast.
